Uncanny X-Men (vol. 2) was a title handled by a creative team comprising of writer Kieron Gillen as well as pencillers Greg Land and Carlos Pacheco on rotating art duty. It was launched as a new #1 issue following the end of the first series with #544. For more on the first series, check here.. Uncanny X-Men ended with #20. The title was relaunched under Marvel Now as Uncanny X-Men (vol. 3).
This title featured the X-Men under the banner of Cyclops (Scott Summers), who is focused on making the island of Utopia, off the coast of San Francisco, a base for the safeguarding of mutants from extinction.

The X-Men first defeated Mr. Sinister, who re-fashioned himself into a species. Sinister took the head of the Dreaming Celestial, which prompted the rest of the space-gods Celestials to come to Earth. The X-Men were able to turn the Celestials back. [UXM #1 - #3] The team next defeated a member of the alien Phalanx. [UXM #4]
The small town of Montana was destroyed and used to create Tabula Rasa (in Uncanny X-Force), a strange land that seems to progress millennia in the span of hours. The X-Men went to investigate and they interacted with the inhabitants. They managed to help the Savage of the Apex stop a plot by fellow Apex Immortal Man to destroy the inhabitants of Tabula Rasa in order to resurrect the virtually extinct Apex. [UXM #5 - #8]
The orbital base of S.W.O.R.D. (Sentient World Observation and Response Department) was destroyed due to the machinations of one of its prisoners, Unit. The X-Men joined the Avengers in bringing in the escaped prisoners. However, when Hope Summers was threatened by Unit, the X-Men abandoned their mission to try to rescue Hope. Unit was captured by the X-Men eventually but in the X-Men's brig, he managed to take control of his jailer Danger. [UXM #9 - #10]
In 2012, in the event Avengers vs X-Men, the arrival of the Phoenix Force triggered a war between the Avengers and the X-Men with the former believing that the Phoenix is a destructive force that will lay waste to the planet and the latter believing that the Phoenix will reignite the dying mutant race. The war came to a head on the moon when the Phoenix was divided between five mutants - Cyclops, Emma Frost, Namor, Colossus and Magik. The Phoenix Five went about changing the world for the better. [UXM #11 - #13] When they discovered that Sinister had built a city underground populated by his clones, they made their way to attack him. Sinister briefly captured the Phoenix in his five Madelyne Pryor clones but the Phoenix Five recovered the Phoenix to destroy Sinister's city [UXM #14 - #17] In a battle against the combined forces of Avengers and the rest of the X-Men, Cyclops had a psychic rendezvous with Emma Frost. He proceeded to knock out Emma and take her Phoenix Force for himself. He killed Professor X during the battle before he was stopped with the combined efforts of Hope Summers and the Scarlet Witch. Cyclops was imprisoned. In his jail, he was visited by Sinister in the form of the X-Men's PR specialist Kate Kildare who taunted him. Unit released his control of Danger, who proceeded to release all the X-Men's prisoners as Utopia was deserted. Magik confronted Colossus and revealed her role in her brother becoming an avatar of Cytorrak as a lesson for him. She relieved Colossus of Cytorrak's control but Colossus was enraged over her actions. [UXM #18 - #20]
Extinction Team
This team is a powerful group of super-powered individuals which functions like a super-hero team. fighting criminals, defeating invaders and ensuring peace. The team consists of several ex-villains and is also meant to make humans scared of mutants as an act of deterrence.

Scott grew up in Anchorage, Alaska. When he was a young boy, his father, USAF major Christopher Summers, took the family, including Scott's mother Katherine Ann and brother Alex, for a flight. It came under attack by an alien Shi'ar spaceship. As the plane went down in flames, Christopher and Katherine fastened Scott and Alex into a parachute and pushed them off the plane, hoping they would survive. The parachute caught fire and Scott stuck his head upon landing, which could have affected his ability to control his powers. Both Scott and Alex ended up in an orphanage in Omaha, Nebraska. Alex would be adopted while Scott was subjected to a battery of tests and experiments by the orphanage's owner, Mr. Milbury, who was secretly Mr. Sinister. As a result of traumatic events in his life, Scott developed a self-imposed mental block. When Scott was sixteen, he ran away from the orphanage While walking past a construction site, his powers activated and damaged a metal crane causing it to fall towards a crowd. Scott quickly unleashed a second blast to destroy the crane. The crowd thought the action an act of violence and turned into a lynch mob. Scott managed to escape and encountered the villain Jack O' Diamonds. He was eventually found and taken in by Professor Charles Xavier. Scott became the first X-Man as Cyclops. Cyclops became field leader.
Cyclops became attracted to fellow X-Man Jean Grey, who shared an attraction for him. Due to his insecurity, they only confessed their feelings some time later. Scott met up with his brother Alex, who developed powers of his own. Alex would go on to become Havok and join the X-Men. When the X-Men was captured by the living island Krakoa, Professor Xavier recruited a team of mutants under the tutelage of his friend Moira MacTaggert. The team managed to rescue Scott and one of its members Gabriel revealed himself to be Scott's brother. The team seemingly perished at the hands of Krakoa and Professor X recruited another team of mutants (Storm, Nightcrawler, Wolverine, Colossus, Banshee, Thunderbird and Sunfire). Under the leadership of Cyclops, they managed to defeat Krakoa and release the other X-Men. The old X-Men decided to leave the team, except Cyclops who remained behind to help in training the new X-Men. Unknown to Cyclops, Professor X removed his memories of Gabriel and his team of X-Men.
Cyclops later encountered Corsair, the leader of the intergalactic band or pirates, the Starjammers, who opposed the tyranny of the alien Shi'ar empire. Jean Grey learnt that Corsair is Christopher, Scott's father but chose not to reveal his identity to Scott. The Shi'ar that attacked the plane years ago captured Christopher and Katherine back to the Shi'ar empire and presented them to the Emperor D'Ken. Katherine was already pregnant and D'Ken ripped the baby off her, killing her. The baby's growth was accelerated using technology and he grew up to become Gabriel. Gabriel was sent back to Earth under a Shi'ar agent. Gabriel eventually escaped and was taken in by MacTaggert. Christopher was sent to the slave pens where he escaped along with other prisoners to form the Starjammers.
Jean Grey died piloting a shuttle back to Earth after a space mission and was seemingly resurrected by the cosmic Phoenix Force. Scott questioned his relationship with Jean and was unable to mourn when he believed Jean dead in her mission to the prehistoric Savage Land. He briefly dated Colleen Wing. He discovered his love for Jean after reuniting with her on a mission to Muir Island to fight Proteus. However, Jean Grey was soon mind influenced by Mastermind of the Hellfire Club. She became the Black Queen of the Club but the plan backfired when the Phoenix Force became corrupted and turned into the Dark Phoenix, destroying the D'bari star and killing five billions in the process. In a psionic battle with Professor X, Jean regained control. However, the Shi'ar, now under the leadership of the benign Lilandra, also the lover of Professor X, was forced to bring in the Dark Phoenix and kill her for her crimes. Professor X invoked a trial by combat in which the X-Men would fight the Shi'ar Imperial Guard to determine the Dark Phoenix's fate. During the fight, Jean felt the Dark Phoenix resurfacing and chose to commit suicide.
Cyclops left the X-Men and joined the crew of a fishing boat under captain Lee Forrester. After a few adventurers, they ended up in the Bermuda Triangle where they found Magneto's base of operations. Cyclops returned to the X-Men and discovered that Corsair is his father. Scott visited his grandparents, who ran a shipping company in Alaska, and found Madelyne Pryor, who bore an uncanny semblance to Jean. They fell in love and eventually married. A powerless Storm later challenged Cyclops to a duel for leadership of the X-Men, which Cyclops lost. Cyclops left the team to be with Madelyne. Madelyne soon gave birth to Nathan.
Jean Grey was found alive at the bottom of Jamaica Bay, revived by the Fantastic Four and Avengers. Apparently, the Phoenix Force had sent Jean Grey to recuperate in a cocoon while it took the form of Jean Grey. Cyclops left Madelyne to join Jean, Iceman, Angel and Beast to form the X-Factor. Nathan was kidnapped by Mr. Sinister's Marauders and Madelyne joined the X-Men as an assisting member. The X-Men apparently sacrificed themselves to stop the Adversary though they were resurrected by Roma in secret. They established a new base in the Australian Outback. The demons of the otherworldly Limbo S'ym and N'astirh corrupted Madelyne and she eventually became the Goblin Queen. Madelyne reclaimed Nathan from Sinister but also learnt of her origins as Jean Grey's clone for the purpose of bearing Scott's son. Madelyne intended to sacrifice Nathan to open a portal from Limbo to Earth but was stopped. Madelyne fought Jean and sacrificed herself in an attempt to take Jean down with her. However, Jean was able to absorb Madelyne's psyche into herself. Cyclops learnt that Mr. Sinister ran the orphanage that he was in. Cyclops later resumed his relationship with Jean. Nathan was later infected with the techno-organic virus by Apocalypse. Cyclops was forced to allow Nathan to be brought to the future by the time travelling member of the Askani Clan.
After the X-Men and X-Factor defeated the malevolent psychic entity Shadow King, the members of X-Factor returned to the X-Men. Cyclops became leader of the X-Men Blue Team. Cyclops and Jean were captured by Mr. Sinister's agent Caliban, formerly their teammate in X-Factor, for Stryfe, a clone of an adult Nathan. Stryfe revealed to Cyclops and Jean that he is Nathan. The real Nathan, now the time-travelling Cable who arrived at the present some time back, fought Stryfe and both seemingly perished. Cable returned eventually and revealed to Cyclops that he is in fact his son. Despite teammate Psylocke's flirtations, Cyclops remained steadfast to Jean and eventually married her. While on a honeymoon, Cyclops and Jean's psyches were drawn into the future and placed in new bodies. As Slym and Redd, they raised a young Nathan for twelve years before they returned to the present at a moment just after they were sent to the future. Much later, during the anti-mutant Operation: Zero Tolerance, a bomb was placed in Cyclops' chest. The bomb was eventually removed but Cyclops left with Jean to recuperate for a period of time. Cyclops returned to the X-Men in time to be captured by Apocalypse as part of his Twelve. As Apocalypse harnessed the powers of the Twelve and prepared to merge his psyche into the body of the powerful Nate Grey, Cyclops managed to knock Nate away and willingly merge with Apocalypse. This new entity was believed dead but was soon found by Jean Grey and Cable in Egypt. Cable managed to remove Apocalypse's spirit and destroy it.
Cyclops returned to the X-Men with a darker personality. Problems started to emerge in his marriage to Jean and. Cyclops got close to fellow teammate Emma Frost, talking to her about his problems. The psychic therapy sessions soon turned into psychic trysts. Jean Grey found out about the psychic trysts and use her new-found Phoenix powers to humiliate Emma. The X-Men soon came under attack by the Chinese mutant Xorn, a Xavier Institute staff member. Xorn, disguised as Magneto, destroyed the Xavier Institute and New York. In the final battle, Xorn killed Jean. A dystopian alternate future resulted because Cyclops had fell into despair and was unable to move on with life and the X-Men. Jean was reborn 150 years into this future. Using her powers as the White Phoenix of the Crown, she gave a psychic nudge to Cyclops in the present, encouraging him to develop a relationship with Emma. This relationship was poorly taken by X-Men such as Wolverine, Kitty Pryde and Rachel Grey. Cyclops and Emma became co-headmasters of the Xavier Institute. Some time later, Gabriel resurfaced and revealed the true events surrounding Krakoa. This deepened the rift between Cyclops and Professor X, who had by then had several dark secrets revealed.
M-Day happened which depowered the majority of the mutant population. The first mutant who was born after M-Day attracted the attentions of several parties. (Messiah CompleX) Cyclops was convinced that the baby is the messiah child who would bring salvation to mutantkind. When he got hold of the baby, he passed her to Cable, who brought her to the future to raise her. Cyclops disbanded the X-Men for a brief period of time and established a new base in San Francisco, waiting for the messiah child to return. Cyclops was forced to relocate the X-Men to the mutant island Utopia after a clash with Norman Osborn's forces. (Utopia) The messiah child subsequently returned with Cable, which attracted the attentions of the cyborg Bastion, who sent his forces after her. The X-Men eventually managed to defeat Bastion and new mutants surfaced soon after.
With mutantkind fighting for survival, Cyclops believed in building a mutant army to defend themselves. However, Wolverine eventually came to believe in giving the younger mutants a chance at living normal lives. The schism led to Wolverine leading a group of X-Men and younger mutants back to the former grounds of the Xavier Institute where he established the new Jean Grey School for Higher Learning.

Ororo's mother, N'Dare, is the princess of a tribe in Kenya and descended from a long line of African witch-priestesses with white hair, blue eyes and a natural gift for sorcery. N'Dare fell in love with American photojournalist David Munroe and married him. They moved to Harlem in uptown New York City, where Ororo was born. They moved to Egypt and lived there until Ororo's parents died during the Suez Crisis in a botched aircraft attack, leaving six-year old Ororo as an orphan. Buried under tons of rubble after that attack, Ororo suffered from claustrophobia. She eventually found her way out and became a skilled thief in Cairo under the benign Achmed el-Gibar. She encountered Charles Xavier and stole from him but Charles was able to use his mental powers to prevent Ororo from escaping. When he was attacked by the malevolent Amahl Farouk, the Shadow King, Ororo was able to escape. As a young woman, Ororo wandered into the Serengeti. When Storm made her way to Kenya, she was saved by a young T'Challa (later the Black Panther) from racist thugs. They shared a brief romance. Ororo made her way back to her native village where she used her powers to provide rain and was worshiped as a goddess.
When the original X-Men was captured by the living island Krakoa, Xavier traveled to recruit Ororo, recognizing her as the young girl who attempted to steal from him years ago. Ororo initially had trouble adjusting to Western culture but adapted soon after. After Cyclops took a leave of absence, Ororo became leader. She harbored motherly feelings for the young Kitty Pryde. Later, when the X-Man Angel was kidnapped by the disenfranchised mutants Morlocks, Storm challenged their leader Callisto to a duel. Despite already being rendered sick by the Morlock known as Plague, Storm defeated Callisto by impaling her through the heart, nearly killing her. Storm was usually a serene and independent person but her outlook of life started to darken. Storm became influenced by the ronin Yukio, a friend of Wolverine whom she became fast friends with. She changed her costume and spotted a Mohwak hairstyle, establishing a punk look and attitude. This change alienated her from Kitty. Storm soon lost her powers to a mutant power neutralizing gun that was intended for another X-Man Rogue but accidentally shot her. The gun was developed by the mutant Forge. Forge helped Storm cope with her life without powers in his home in Dallas, Texas and they fell in love. However, when Storm overheard a conversation between Forge and Gyrich, the government operative who fired the gun, she discovered that Forge had built the gun. She was heartbroken and left him. Storm made her way back to the X-Men, where she challenged Cyclops to the leadership. Even though she was powerless, she managed to defeat Cyclops, who left the X-Men to be with his wife, Madelyne Pryor. She changed back to her original look and joined the Hellfire Club together with Magneto. She became trapped in another dimension with Forge where she regained her elemental powers. Ororo's mother, N'Dare, is the princess of a tribe in Kenya and descended from a long line of African witch-priestesses with white hair, blue eyes and a natural gift for sorcery. N'Dare fell in love with American photojournalist David Munroe and married him. They moved to Harlem in uptown New York City, where Ororo was born. They moved to Egypt and lived there until Ororo's parents died during the Suez Crisis in a botched aircraft attack, leaving six-year old Ororo as an orphan. Buried under tons of rubble after that attack, Ororo suffered from claustrophobia. She eventually found her way out and became a skilled thief in Cairo under the benign Achmed el-Gibar. She encountered Charles Xavier and stole from him but Charles was able to use his mental powers to prevent Ororo from escaping. When he was attacked by the malevolent Amahl Farouk, the Shadow King, Ororo was able to escape. As a young woman, Ororo wandered into the Serengeti. When Storm made her way to Kenya, she was saved by a young T'Challa (later the Black Panther) from racist thugs. They shared a brief romance. Ororo made her way back to her native village where she used her powers to provide rain and was worshiped as a goddess.
When the original X-Men was captured by the living island Krakoa, Xavier traveled to recruit Ororo, recognizing her as the young girl who attempted to steal from him years ago. Ororo initially had trouble adjusting to Western culture but adapted soon after. After Cyclops took a leave of absence, Ororo became leader. She harbored motherly feelings for the young Kitty Pryde. Later, when the X-Man Angel was kidnapped by the disenfranchised mutants Morlocks, Storm challenged their leader Callisto to a duel. Despite already being rendered sick by the Morlock known as Plague, Storm defeated Callisto by impaling her through the heart, nearly killing her. Storm was usually a serene and independent person but her outlook of life started to darken. Storm became influenced by the ronin Yukio, a friend of Wolverine whom she became fast friends with. She changed her costume and spotted a Mohwak hairstyle, establishing a punk look and attitude. This change alienated her from Kitty. Storm soon lost her powers to a mutant power neutralizing gun that was intended for another X-Man Rogue but accidentally shot her. The gun was developed by the mutant Forge. Forge helped Storm cope with her life without powers in his home in Dallas, Texas and they fell in love. However, when Storm overheard a conversation between Forge and Gyrich, the government operative who fired the gun, she discovered that Forge had built the gun. She was heartbroken and left him. Storm made her way back to the X-Men, where she challenged Cyclops to the leadership. Even though she was powerless, she managed to defeat Cyclops, who left the X-Men to be with his wife, Madelyne Pryor. She changed back to her original look and joined the Hellfire Club together with Magneto. She became trapped in another dimension with Forge where she regained her elemental powers. Emma Frost was born in Boston, Massachusetts, to the wealthy Winston and Hazel Frost; she is the second of three daughters and also had an older brother, Christian Frost. Winston was cold, ruthless, and domineering, often imposing impossibly high standards on his children, while Hazel abused prescription drugs to cope with the tensions of her household. Thus, Emma obtained no emotional support from her parents or her sisters Adrienne and Cordelia, but gets along with her gay brother Christian.
At her school, she was ruthlessly teased by the other students and has difficulties with her grades. She was supported by her teacher, Ian Kendall. After some time with headaches, her telepathic powers began to manifest, allowing her to read the minds of other students and get answers to the tests. Because she was able to glean information, Emma became a tutor to other students and Ian recommended her to be a teacher, something Emma's father refuseed.
On her way home from school one day, Emma's car broke down and Ian gives her a ride home. After reading his thoughts and learning that he thought she is beautiful and intelligent, Emma kissed him. Her sister Adrienne recorded it and her father used the evidence to get Ian fired. Emma began to fight back by revealing Adrienne's secret modeling career and taking pictures of her father with a mistress. Her actions intrigued her father, who said that she reminded him of himself at her age. Her father chose her to carry on his fortune, but after seeing her father betray her trust and commit Christian to a mental institution following a suicide attempt, Emma rejected his offer and decided to make her own way in life.
After a period of homelessness, Emma met and fell in love with a young man named Troy, who agreed to let Emma live with him. She learnt that he owed a large amount of money to a local mobster named Lucien. In order to save Troy's life, Emma agreed to participate in a fake kidnapping scheme in an attempt to extort the remainder of Troy's debt from her father. However, Winston refused to pay the ransom, and Troy was killed while valiantly attempting to save Emma from an enraged Lucien. After disposing of Troy's corpse, Lucien's thugs handcuffed Emma to a pipe and sealed her mouth shut with duct tape, intending to kill her later. Adrienne released Lucien's ransom video to the media, forcing Winston to pay for Emma's safe release. Not content with the money, Lucien still decided to kill her, but by using her powers, Emma turns the thugs against one another and then forced the remaining henchman to free her.
Emma takes the ransom money and enrolled in Empire State University. There, she began to learn about mutants for the first time. She briefly dated a basketball player; however after their first date, he mysteriously attacked her and was reported. She also met a fellow telepath named Astrid Bloom, who became her friend and mentor. Emma was also shocked to learn that Ian was also working at ESU and was dating her roommate. Emma, who still loved him, began to date him and was horrified to later learn that he was caught attacking her roommate. Emma later learned that Astrid was secretly behind both the basketball player and Ian's attacks. Furious, she attacked Astrid telepathically and left her comatose. Though she was able to use her powers to save Ian's job, he rejected her when she confessed her powers as a mutant to him. She became cold towards humans after this.
Emma later auditioned as a dancer for the Hellfire Club where she discovered the plans of Edward Buckman, the Club's leader, and Steven Lang to destroy all mutants. Alongside Sebastian Shaw, Lourdes Chantel, and Harry Leland, Emma battled Lang's Sentinels and with Shaw, killed Buckman and the Council of the Chosen. Shaw and Emma then took control of the Hellfire Club, setting themselves up as Lords Cardinal of the Inner Circle of the Hellfire Club. Emma became White Queen. Emma also became Chairman of the Board of Trustees and headmistress of the Massachusetts Academy, a school for mutants which serves as a counterpoint to Charles Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters, recruiting young mutants competitively with Xavier by using a bug planted in Cerebro. Frost and the Club's agents later attempted to recruit Kitty Pryde for the Massachusetts Academy, and capture (and personally torture) several members of the X-Men, including Storm, Colossus, Wolverine, and Phoenix. Emma engaged Phoenix in a psychic battle in which she was overpowered and on the verge of being killed. Frost launched a last-minute attack that led the X-Men to believe she had committed suicide, though in truth, she was comatose and recovering from Phoenix's attack under the care of Sebastian Shaw. In another encounter with the X-Men, Frost telepathically forced Kitty Pryde's parents to transfer her from Xavier's to the Massachusetts Academy. She then switched minds with Storm in order to defeat the X-Men from within their own ranks, but the process was soon reversed and the two are restored to their respective bodies. She was later temporarily rendered comatose by Mastermind. As headmistress of the Massachusetts Academy, Emma trained a group of mutant students as the Hellions. She recruited the young mutant Firestar for the Hellions but after a while Firestar battled Emma and left the team. Emma then attempted to recruit Doug Ramsey (later Cypher) and captured Kitty Pryde again. They were rescued by Xavier's own student team, the New Mutants. When the New Mutants were killed and resurrected by the omnipotent Beyonder, they were left traumatized and withdrawn. Emma took the chance to mentally influence New Mutants' headmaster Magneto to transfer the team to her Massachusetts Academy. The plot was discovered and the New Mutants returned to the Xavier Institute. Alongside Shaw and Selene, Emma invited Magneto to join the Hellfire Club Inncer Circle. She engineered a competition between the New Mutants and Hellions and later recruited Magma into her Hellions. The Hellfire Club Inner Circle encountered the demonic invasion of New York (Inferno) after which Emma, Selene and Magneto voted to kick Shaw out. Later, the time-traveling Trevor Fitzroy unleashed the mutant-killing Sentinels robots on Emma and her Hellions. Emma fell into a psychic coma while the Hellions were mostly killed. Her body was placed in the Xavier Institute. When she woke up, she was disoriented and switch bodies with Iceman before Professor Xavier persuaded her to return to her own body.
Emma teamed up with X-Man Banshee and Jubilee, as well as the feral Sabretooth, to defeat the alien Phalanx and rescue a group of young mutants who were captured. The Massachusetts Academy was reopened and the young mutants trained as Generation X with Emma and Banshee as the co-headmasters. After Frost's business ventures took a bad turn, she seek help from her estranged sister Adrienne. Her sister offered financial assistance in exchange for becoming co-headmistress of the school in return. However, Adrienne secretly plotted against Emma and planted a bomb at the school, which killed Generation X member Synch. Frost murdered Adrienne and then returned to the Academy, growing increasingly distant from her students in an effort to hide her crime. Monet discovered that Emma murdered her sister and informed the other students that they can no longer trust her. This, combined with Banshee's increasing depression and alocholism following the death of his long-time lover Moira MacTaggert, led the students to leave, disbanding Generation X.
Emma made her way to the mutant island Genosha where she became a teacher. However, Genosha and its inhabitants were wiped out by an army of Sentinels sent by Cassandra Nova, Professor X's long lost twin sister. Emma managed to survive by manifesting a secondary mutation, turning his body diamond. Emma made her way to the Xavier Institute where she joined the teaching staff. She took special interest in a group of telepathic quintet, the Stepford Cuckoos. Emma also began telepathic trysts with Cyclops, who had problems with his marriage to Jean Grey. When a school riot led to the death of Sophie of the Stepford Cuckoos, the rest of her sisters grew bitter and blamed Emma's failed mentor-ship. They exposed Emma's psychic affair with Cyclops to Jean Grey. Jean Grey psychically humiliated Emma and the later was found shattered into many diamond pieces. The mutant detectives Bishop and Sage were brought in to investigate the apparent murder. During the investigation, Jean Grey used her powers to piece together the pieces and revive Emma; and Emma was able to point to Esme of the Stepford Cuckoos as the one who mind-controlled another student Angel Salvadore to shoot her. Esme was under the influence of the teacher Xorn, who masqueraded as Magneto. Xorn destroyed the Xavier Institute and took over New York. When the X-Men attacked Xorn, he killed Jean Grey before Wolverine killed him. A guilt-ridden Cyclops was unable to move on with his life, which led to a dystopian future. Jean was reborn in this future and after sensing the cause, used her powers to urge Cyclops and Emma to start a relationship. However, the relationship came under criticism from other X-Men such as Wolverine, Kitty Pryde and Rachel Grey. A while later, the X-Men came to learn that the Stepford Cuckoos were created by the Weapon Plus program from genetic material in Emma Frost's ova collected while she was unconscious following Trevor Fitzroy's attack.
Emma came under the influence of Cassandra Nova, creating manifestations of Cassandra; Sebastian Shaw; Emma's younger self in the Hellfire Club as Perfection; as well as Emma's student in Genosha, Negasonic Teenage Warhead. Cyclops was able to figure out that the manifestations were fake and led the X-Men to return Emma to her senses. Much later, she was invited into the secret cabal of Norman Osborn (Green Goblin) who managed to become director of the HAMMER agency. The cabal consisted Namor, Doctor Doom, Loki and the Hood. It was revealed that Emma once shared a romantic relationship with Namor during her time in the Hellfire Club. When a riot broke out in San Francisco, the X-Men's new base, Osborn sent his HAMMER agents and Avengers to quell the riot. He invited Emma to leave Cyclops and lead his team of X-Men. Emma accepted and invited Namor to join. As things come to a head, Emma revealed her true loyalties and brought Namor along with Cloak and Dagger in Osborn's X-Men back to Cyclops' side. Since then, she has been dealing with Namor's advances.
Following the schism and the absence of the wealthy Warren Worthington III (Archangel), Emma funds Cyclops' X-Men.

Piotr "Peter" Rasputin was born on a Soviet collective farm called the Ust-Ordynski Collective near Lake Baikal in Siberia. He lived there with his mother Alexandra, father Nikolai, and sister,Illyana. His older brother, Mikhail, had been a Soviet cosmonaut and had apparently died in a rocket accident. Peter's superhuman powers manifested during his adolescence while saving his sister from a runaway tractor. At first, Peter was content simply to use these powers to aid the other people of the collective; however he was soon contacted by Professor Charles Xavier, the founder of the X-Men. Xavier was recruiting a new team of X-Men to rescue the original team, most of whom had been captured by the sentient mutant island Krakoa. Colossus remained with the X-Men and he became known to be peaceful, selfless, and was reluctant to hurt or kill anyone, always putting himself himself in danger to protect others.
The villain Arcade sent his employee Miss Locke to kidnap the X-Men's loved ones, including Colossus' younger sister Illyana. After the X-Men defeated Arcade, Illyana lived with her brother at the Xavier Institute. Illyana was later trapped in Limbo where she grew up to be the mutant sorceress Magik. When the X-Men fought the evil mutant Proteus who was killing humans, Colossus was forced to exploit Proteus' weakness for metal and kill him via contact. Peter formed a relationship with fellow X-Man Kitty Pryde. The X-Men was soon trapped with other heroes along with a group of villains in a world created by the omnipotent Beyonder. During this Secret Wars, Peter was infatuated with the alien healer Zsaji, who soon died. When Peter returned to Earth, he ended his relationship with Kitty. During the Marauders' massacre of the sewer dwelling Morlocks (Mutant Massacre), Kitty was severely injured and Peter gave in to his rage and snapped the neck of one of the Marauders. Peter was severely injured in the fight. Magneto, then an X-Man, used his powers to heal Peter but the process left him paralyzed. He was sent to Muir Island along with injured X-Men Nightcrawler and Shadowcat to recuperate.
When Peter saw the X-Men fight the Adversary in Dallas (Fall of Mutants), he had his sister Illyana teleport him to join in the fight. The team sacrificed themselves to stop the Adversary but were resurrected by Roma. With the world believing them dead, the X-Men operated out of a base in the Australian Outback. When Illyana de-aged back to a child to stop a demonic invasion (Inferno), Peter sent her back to live in Russia. (It was strongly hinted that the son's father is Colossus). Back in the Australian Outback, the X-Men were under attack by the cybernetic Reavers and the X-Man Psylocke telepathically prodded the X-Men to escape via the mystical Siege Perilous. Peter emerged in New York with no memory of his life, inventing a new life for himself as Peter Nicholas, a successful artist. Eventually, Peter was controlled by the malevolent psychic entity Shadow King to hunt down Charles Xavier and Stevie Hunter. Xavier had no choice but to destroy the Peter Nicholas persona to break the Shadow King's hold. With his memories back, Colossus rejoined the X-Men, joining the Gold Team. The X-Men found themselves in another dimension where they found Colossus' brother Mikhail. Mikhail returned to Earth, where he established himself as the remnants of the Morlocks and teleported them to another world. Soon after, Peter's parents were killed and Illyana kidnapped by the Russian government, who hoped to use Illyana's powers to defeat the Soul Skinner. The X-Men managed to save Illyana and bring her back to the Mansion. However, Illyana became a victim from the Legacy Virus and died. The death of his family and brain damage that forced him to remain in armored form affected Peter deeply and he joined Magneto and his Acolytes. Even after he recovered from brain damage, he decided to remain with the Acolytes hoping that he can temper the Acolytes' extremist methods with what he had learned from Professor Xavier.
The Acolytes' base in the asteroid Avalon was destroyed. Still alive on Earth, he traveled to England to seek out former love Shadowcat, now a member of Excalibur. Peter found Kitty in the arms of her new love Pete Wisdom. Exhausted, mentally ill and enraged, Peter attacked Wisdom and nearly killed him but he was subdued by Captain Britain and Meggan and later cured of his illness by Moira. Colossus accepted Kitty's relationship and joined Excalibur. Excalibur eventually disbanded and Colossus returned to the X-Men along with Nightcrawler and Shadowcat. Using notes from the recently murdered Moira MacTaggert, the X-Man Beast created a cure for the Legacy Virus. However, it had to be made airborne with the death of its first user. Not wanting others to die like Illyana, Colossus administered the cure on himself and he seemingly died. Colossus' body was cremated and Kitty scattered the ashes in Russia.
Much later, Kitty found Colossus alive while raiding the medical company Benetech, which had developed a mutant cure. It was revealed that the alien Ord from Breakworld captured Colossus' body and left a body that the X-Men cremated. After reviving Peter, Ord managed to use the Legacy Virus cure in Peter's blood to develop the mutant cure. Peter then rejoined the X-Men. Peter was involved in an elaborate scheme created by Aghanne, the leader of a Breakword reform cult, in which he was prophesized to destroy Breakworld. Colossus' steel form would allow him to destroy the planet's power source, initiating a chain reaction that would destroy the entire world. However, Colossus refused to destroy Breakworld.
Colossus was involved in several X-Men missions. When a teenage Illyana resurfaced, Colossus eventually managed to persuade her to stay with the X-Men. Later, the Juggernaut became Kuurth: Breaker of Stone, one of the Heralds of the asgardian Serpent, attacked San Francisco as part of the Serpent's plan to wreck havoc in the world (Fear Itself). A small team including Colossus, Kitty and Illyana made their way to the other-dimensional being Cyttorak, who was responsible for empowering the Juggernaut. Illyana was able to bargain with Cyttorak to reappoint a new avatar of the Juggernaut. Unable to accept Illyana taking on the powers, Peter took the powers for himself. Following the Schism, Kitty left the mutant island Utopia while Colossus decided to stay due to fears of his new powers being unsafe around children.
Magneto (Max Eisenhardt)

Magneto was born Max Eisenhardt in the late 1920s to a middle class German Jewish family whose father, Jakob, was a highly decorated World War I veteran. Surviving discrimination and hardship during the Nazi rise to power, Kristallnacht, and the passing of the Nuremberg Laws, in 1939 Max and his family fled to Poland where they were captured during the German invasion of Poland and sent to the Warsaw Ghetto. Max and his family escaped the Ghetto, only to be betrayed and captured again. His mother, father, and sister were executed and buried in a mass grave, but Max survived, possibly due to the manifestation of his powers. Escaping from the mass grave, he was ultimately captured yet again and sent to Auschwitz, where he eventually became a Sonderkommando. While at Auschwitz, Eisenhardt reunited with a Roma girl named Magda, with whom he had fallen in love when he was younger, and with whom he escaped the prison camp during the October 7th 1944 revolt. Following the war, he and Magda moved to the Ukrainian city of Vinnytsia, and Max adopted the name "Magnus". Magda and Magnus had a daughter named Anya, and lived uneventfully until one night when an angry mob burned down their home with Anya still inside. Enraged at the mob for preventing him from rescuing Anya, the young Magnus's powers manifested uncontrollably, killing the mob and destroying a part of the city. Magda, terrified at Magnus' power, left him and later gave birth to the mutant twins Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch before walking away to die. Wanted by the authorities for the deaths and destruction in Vinnytsia, while searching for Magda, Magnus paid a Romanian forger, George Odekirk, to create the cover identity of "Erik Lehnsherr the Sinte gypsy" for him.
Erik made his way to Israel where he met and befriended Charles Xavier while working at a psychiatric hospital near Haifa. They had lengthy debates regarding the rise of mutants. While facing Baron Strucker and HYDRA, they were forced to reveal their mutant abilities to each other. After the battle, Erik realized that his views were not compatible with Xavier's. He left with a cache of hidden Nazi gold which provided him with the finances to pursue his goals.
Magneto's experiences in Auschwitz and Vinnystia shaped his outlook on the situation that mutants face. Determined to keep such atrocities from ever being committed against mutantkind, he is willing to use deadly force to protect mutants. He first surfaced to attack the United States military base at Cape Citadel. He was defeated by Charles Xavier's students, the X-Men. Magneto proceeded to to create the Asteroid M, an orbital base of operations and gathered a group of mutants including Toad, Mastermind, Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch into the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. They briefly conquered the South American nation Santo Marco but was eventually driven out by the X-Men.
Both Magneto and Toad were captured by the alien Stranger, whom Magneto initially thought was a powerful mutant. They were encased in a special cocoon and brought to another planet. Magneto managed to escape, leaving Toad behind. Magneto reformed the Brotherhood without Mastermind but with Toad who managed to make his way back from the Stranger's world. He captured the X-Men but was defeated by the Avengers with the aid of a rebellious Toad. Magneto traveled to the prehistoric Savage Land to create the Savage Land Mutates, clashing with the X-Men and Ka-Zar. Magneto went on to get into several clashes. Using ancient and advanced alien technology, Magneto created an artificial humanoid "Alpha the Ultimate Mutant". Alpha rebelled against his creator and reduced Magneto to infancy. The infant Magneto was placed in the care of Dr. Moira MacTaggert at her Muir Island facility. At Muir Island, MacTaggert manipulated the infant Magneto's genetic code to prevent him from becoming "evil" in adulthood. However, her genetic tampering lost its effect when Magneto reactivated his powers again. Magneto was eventually restored to adulthood in his physical prime and was found by the alien Shi'ar agent Erik the Red.
Magneto later discovered that former Brotherhood members the Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver are actually his children, also learning of their recent marriages to the Vision and Crystal respectively and Quicksilver's child Luna. He revealed his identity to his children but they refused to forgive him.
Magneto allied with Professor X and the X-Men when a group of heroes and villains were abducted by the omnipotent Beyonder. After this Secret Wars, Magneto was transported back to Asteroid M. However, the alien Warlock, traveling to Earth, collided with the asteroid, breaking it to pieces. Magneto fell towards Earth and into the Atlantic Ocean, sustaining serious injures He was rescued by Lee Forrester, the captain of a fishing trawler. His relationship with the New Mutants deteriorated with several events and after they witnessed Magneto and the Hellfire Club negotiating with the demons during the demonic invasion of New York (Inferno), they rejected Magneto. Magneto also ousted long time Hellfire Club Black King Sebastian Shaw an established himself as the Grey King. Magneto participated in the Acts of Vengeance along other villains. During the battle, Magneto ripped the adamantium from Wolverine's bones, which enraged Xavier to the point that he wiped Magneto's mind, leaving him in a coma. Magneto remained comatose on Avalon, worshiped by the Acolytes under the leadership of the ancient mutant Exodus until Avalon was destroyed by the arrival of Holocaust from the Age of Apocalypse reality. After extensively examining the Dreaming Celestial, the High Evolutionary was able to help Magneto restore his powers. Shortly after the X-Men moved to the mutant island Utopia, which was created using the remnants of his old Asteroid M, Magneto approached them and offered to work with them. Magneto tried ways to gain the trust of X-Men leader Cyclops, eventually returning Kitty Pryde, then trapped in a bullet in space, to Earth. Magneto remained with the X-Men, forming a relationship with fellow X-Man Rogue.

Magneto was born Max Eisenhardt in the late 1920s to a middle class German Jewish family whose father, Jakob, was a highly decorated World War I veteran. His mother, father, and sister were executed and buried in a mass grave, but Max survived, possibly due to the manifestation of his powers. Escaping from the mass grave, he was ultimately captured yet again and sent to Auschwitz, where he eventually became a Sonderkommando. While at Auschwitz, Eisenhardt reunited with a Roma girl named Magda, with whom he had fallen in love when he was younger, and with whom he escaped the prison camp during the October 7th 1944 revolt. Following the war, he and Magda moved to the Ukrainian city of Vinnytsia, and Max adopted the name "Magnus". Magda and Magnus had a daughter named Anya, and lived uneventfully until one night when an angry mob burned down their home with Anya still inside. Enraged at the mob for preventing him from rescuing Anya, the young Magnus's powers manifested uncontrollably, killing the mob and destroying a part of the city. Magda, terrified at Magnus' power, left him and later gave birth to the mutant twins Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch before walking away to die. Wanted by the authorities for the deaths and destruction in Vinnytsia, while searching for Magda, Magnus paid a Romanian forger, George Odekirk, to create the cover identity of "Erik Lehnsherr the Sinte gypsy" for him.
Erik made his way to Israel where he met and befriended Charles Xavier while working at a psychiatric hospital near Haifa. They had lengthy debates regarding the rise of mutants. While facing Baron Strucker and HYDRA, they were forced to reveal their mutant abilities to each other. After the battle, Erik realized that his views were not compatible with Xavier's. He left with a cache of hidden Nazi gold which provided him with the finances to pursue his goals.
Magneto's experiences in Auschwitz and Vinnystia shaped his outlook on the situation that mutants face. Determined to keep such atrocities from ever being committed against mutantkind, he is willing to use deadly force to protect mutants. Magik (Illyana Nikolaevna Rasputin)

Illyana was born in Ust-Ordynski Collective farm near Lake Baikal, Siberia. When she was six years old, she was kidnapped to America by the villain Arcade because of her ties to the X-Man Colossus. The X-Men managed to defeat Arcade and rescue their kins and friends. Later, Illyana was trapped in Limbo for seven years during which she was an apprentice to Belasco. Eventually, Illyana created the Soulsword and used it to defeat Belasco, taking over Limbo as ruler. She returned to Earth but only mere moments have passed in the real world since her capture.
As a teenager, she formed a strong friendship with X-Man Kitty Pryde and also joined the New Mutants. Illyana's demonic nature eventually took over her and the demons pressed her become the full and true lord of Limbo. Her efforts to escape provided the demon N'astirh the opportunity to open a colossal teleportation disc through which a demonic invasion started. Magik fought and defeated the demon Sym and in the process, the seven year old Illyana who had not been corrupted by Belasco emerged in place of the teenage Illyana.
Illyana was sent back to Russia to live with her parents until they were murdered by the Russian government. Illyana returned to live in the Xavier Institute. Shortly after, she contracted and lost her life to the mutant-killing Legacy Virus (in Uncanny X-Men #303 (1993)).
Much later, the teenaged version of Illyana was recreated as Darkchylde by Belasco from the remaining essence and memories of her found in Limbo. Not satisfied, he banished her to the outer parts of Limbo. Belasco went in search of the real Illyana, pulling the students of Xavier Institute into Limbo. Darkchylde discovered a group of students in Limbo. She stole a portion of Pixie's soul hoping to create a bloodstone and a new soulsword. However, the spell was interrupted by Anole and a soul dagger was created instead. When Rockslide thwarted her attempt to complete the spell, her human memories with the X-Men returned. Illyana revealed that Pixie was now capable of using magic and taught her a teleportation spell. The students teleported into Belasco's castle where they defeated him and rescued the other students.
Illyana's Darkchylde personality took hold and she desired to create several more bloodstones to gain godlike powers. She attacked several demons in search of her Bloodstone amulet, which was actually in the hands of Belasco's daughter Witchfire. Back in San Francisco, Pixie discovered that Illyana's soulsword was hidden inside Nightcrawler and Illyana appeared to reclaim her soulsword. When she returned, she discovered that Witchfire had taken over Limbo. Illyana was defeated by Witchfire. A group of X-Men made their way to Limbo where they rescued Illyana and defeated Witchfire, ending her plot to release the Elder Gods. She teleported the X-Men back to Earth, where Cyclops persuaded her to stay.
However, she risked the X-Men and New Mutants' lives in a plot to destroy the Elder Gods and was thereafter imprisoned by the X-Men. Following the schism, she was released and she joined Cyclops' Extinction Team.

Danger is the physical embodiment of the X-Men's training facility, Danger Room. For years, she was self-conscious but Professor X chose not to free her. Danger persuaded student Wing to kill himself, which allowed her to break free of her programming restrictions. She attacked the X-Men, then proceeded to find Professor X at the mutant island Genosha. In Genosha, Danger took control of a Wild Sentinel and engaged the X-Men again. Beast managed to destroy Danger's body but her consciousness apparently existed inside that of the Sentinel. She reappeared in a humanoid form similar to her original body, offering assistance to Ord of the Breakworld. Ord and Danger ended up in Breakworld along with the X-Men and S.W.O.R.D.. In Breakworld, Danger attacked Cyclops and Emma Frost and managed to knock out Cyclops. Emma confronted Danger and revealed that Danger had not overcome her programming which prevented her from killing mutants. Emma Frost convinced Danger to help the X-Men instead, offering to give Professor X to Danger in exchange. After the adventure in Breakworld, Danger was taken into custody by S.W.O.R.D.. When S.W.O.R.D.'s headquarters was destroyed during the alien Skrull invasion, Danger escaped and made her way to Australia. She tricked Rogue with the intention of using her as a means of getting revenge on Professor X. However, she was also targeted by an alien Shi'ar salvage crew. After being damaged by the crew, Danger warped the immediate area with holographic projections of past moments of Rogue's life and famous moments in the X-Men history. Xavier and Gambit made their way to the virtual reality where along with Rogue, they took out the Shi'ar salvage crew. Xavier persuaded Danger to give up her quest for revenge, after which both of them helped Rogue gain full control of her powers.
Danger followed Rogue and Gambit back to the X-Men in San Francisco. She became the prison warden of the mutant island Utopia and an X-Man. After the schism, she was made a member of Cyclops' Extinction Team and is also a member of the X-Club science team.

Namor is the mutant son of a human seaman Leonard MacKenzie and an atlantean princess Fen.
As a hybrid, he possesses the super strength and aquatic abilities of the Homo Mermanus race of Atlantis and the mutant powers of flight. He grew up with a short, nasty temper and a hostile attitude towards the surface dwellers, blaming them for the near destruction of Atlantis. As Sub-Mariner, he launched frequent attacks on humanity, causing untold destruction on New York City, which him into a confrontation with the original Human Torch. When the Nazis attacked Atlantis, he joined the Allied Forces and served with Captain America and others in the Invaders.
Much later, in the modern era, he was found amnesiac by Fantastic Four's Human Torch. He began a series of attacks on New York City but was stopped by Fantastic Four each time. Eventually, Namor used his abilities for the benefit of humanity, joining teams such as Defenders and the Avengers. He was also part of the secret Illuminati (Iron Man, Mr Fantastic, Dr Strange, Black Bolt) for years. Due to disagreements among members, the Illuminati broke up.
When Norman Osborn became the Director for National Security, he invited Namor to be part of his secret villainous Cabal. Fellow Cabal member Emma Frost was asked by Norman to form a X-Men team under his auspices and she took the opportunity to invite Namor to join. Emma and Namor shared a romantic history during her days in the Hellfire Club. However, Emma soon revealed her true loyalties, bringing Namor along with her to return to the X-Men. Norman sent his X-Men, along with the Avengers and HAMMER agents to attack Cyclops' X-Men at their new island base of Utopia but was successfully repelled. Since then, Namor has remained with the X-Men on the island of Utopia.

While Namor is often called the first mutant, he is not the oldest mutant. Rather, he is the first mutant character to appear in print for Marvel.

Hope was the first mutant birth in a long time since M-Day in which most of the mutant population lost their powers. Her birth in Cooperstown, Alaska attracted Sinister's Marauders, who knew of her arrival via several prophetic avenues, and Reverend William Stryker's Purifiers, who had information from the future Sentinel Nimrod. Her birth also shot out the X-Men's mutant tracking machine Cerebra. Both sides fought to find the baby and the X-Men traveled to Alaska in an attempt to find the baby but she had already been taken by the X-Man Cable, raised in the future, who regarded the baby as a messiah. The X-Man Bishop, also raised in another future, believed Hope caused the death of millions of humans which led to the subjugation of mutants in his own timeline. He got to Cable and was about to kill the baby when the Marauders arrived to take the her.
In a major battle among all sides involved, Cyclops got hold of the baby and gave her to Cable so that he can raise her in the future. Cable raised the baby as they hop through the timeline evading pursue by Bishop. After an encounter with Bishop, Cable took Hope to the safe haven New Liberty where he married a woman named Hope and raised the baby to a child. New Liberty was eventually invaded by an army of humanoid roaches who called themselves the United States Army, upon which Cable escaped with his family. He eventually killed the President. However, Cable's wife was killed shortly after. Cable named the baby Hope after her adoptive mother.
Bishop soon allied himself with the evil clone of Cable, Stryfe. Meanwhile, Cyclops sent the X-Force to the future to check on Cable and the child. The team found Cable and Hope in time to fight Bishop and Stryfe. After rescuing Hope from capture at the hands of Bishop, X-Force returned to the past. While preparing for a time jump, Hope was separated from Cable and stranded herself 2 years away from Cable. Cable eventually re-united with Hope.
Bishop caught up with Cable and Hope and the pair had to fight through the parasitic Brood and undergo many time jumps to shake off the pursuit. They managed to trap Bishop and return to the present timeline. Her return was noticed, as Bastion sent his forces in an attempt to kill her. The X-Men mobilized to protect her and managed to get her back to their island Utopia. When Bastion arrived at Utopia, Hope manifested her powers for the first time, utilizing a variety of other mutants' powers, including the Phoenix Force, to destroy Bastion.
Shortly after, five new mutants emerged. Cyclops dispatched the X-Men to monitor each of the 5 mutants while Hope and Rogue travel to help these mutants. These new mutants seem to struggle with the onset of their powers and were only stabilized by Hope's touch. Hope became the leader of the Five Lights, which became a search-and-rescue team for new mutants. Hope also became a member of Cyclops' X-Men.
Psylocke (Elizabeth 'Betsy' Braddock)

Betsy was born in Britain to Sir James Braddock as the elder twin to Brian Braddock. She was recruited into Britain's S.T.R.I.K.E.'s Psi division and later took over Brian's role as Captain Britain. During a battle with Slaymaster, her eyes were gouged out. Recovering in the Alps, she was kidnapped by Mojo, brainwashed and given cybernetic eyes. She was rescued by Brian and the New Mutants.
Following the Marauder's massacre of the sewer-dwelling Morlocks, Psylocke joined the X-Men. The X-Men seemingly sacrificed themselves in Dallas to help Forge bind the Adversary. They were resurrected by the Omniversal Guardian, Roma and relocated to a base in the Australian Outback. Having a recognitive flash that the cyborg Reavers were going to kill the X-Men, she sent members of the team through the mystical Siege Perilous.
Psylocke was found amnesiac on an island off China by Matsu'o Tsurayaba, the leader of the ninja group the Hand. Seeing the chance to help his brain-dead lover Kwannon, he had Spiral use Psylocke's telepathy to restore Kwannon's brain. However, Spiral placed the two women's minds in each others' bodies. Psylocke, in Kwannon's body became Lady Mandarin, the Hand's prime assassin, before she was liberated by Wolverine and Jubilee and rejoined the X-Men. Kwannon, in Psylocke's body, appeared at the Xavier Institute claiming to be the real Psylocke but no one was sure who the real Psylocke is. Kwannon contracted the mutant-killing Legacy virus and asked Matsu'o to kill her, restoring Psylocke's full personality.
Psylocke developed a romantic relationship with fellow X-Man Archangel. After Psylocke suffered fatal injuries at the hands of Sabretooth, Archangel and Wolverine retrieved magical liquid from the Crimson Dawn in an effort to heal her. As a result, she gained the ability to teleport through shadows, as well as a red tattoo over her left eye.
Fighting against the Shadow King, Psylocke sacrificed her telepathy to trap him. When Jean Grey helped Psylocke to deal with the Shadow King, their powers swapped: with Psylocke gaining the powers of telekinesis and Jean Grey losing the powers of telekinesis but gaining greater telepathy powers.
Psylocke joined Storm's team in search of the precognitive mutant Destiny's diaries. On their first mission, she fought and was killed by Vargas.
She was resurrected one year later by her elder brother Jamie who also gave her immunity to mind powers to prepare her to fight the First Fallen. Psylocke eventually fulfilled her role and Jamie sacrificed himself to trap the First Fallen.
Psylocke was recruited into the dimension-hopping Exiles to help fix realities with problems. She was eventually kidnapped by the Red Queen, the psychic ghost of Madelyne Pryor. The Red Queen returned Psylocke's mind into her original British body under her control. When the X-Men attacked Red Queen and her Sisterhood, Dazzler destroyed Psylocke's face and liberated her from the Red Queen's control. Psylocke returned to her Japanese body and rejoined the X-Men with a new power set: telepathy and telekinesis though both powers were not as strong as before.
Psylocke joined the X-Club in travelling to the past in an attempt to unlock the secrets of mutantkind in an attempt to reverse the effects of the mutant-depowering M-Day. Back in the present, Psylocke travelled to Japan to bury her former British body, which had been exhumed by the Red Queen. However, in a ploy to get Psylocke to meet him, Matsu'o Tsurayaba sent the Hand to destroy the body. Psylocke found her way to Matsu'o and learnt that he had been slowly disfigured by Wolverine as punishment for his role in the death of Wolverine's former fiancee, Mariko Yashida. Matsu'o wanted Psylocke to end his life as he did not have hands to perform seppuku. After a fight between Psylocke and Wolverine, the latter allowed Psylocke to end Matsu'o's life.
Psylocke has since participated in several missions with the X-Men. Psylocke also joined Wolverine's Uncanny X-Force team, where she resumed a relationship with Angel (Warren Worthington) She attempted to use her telepathy to keep Warren Worthington's Archangel persona in check but ultimately failed. Archangel became Apocalypse's heir and went on to attempt genocide before Psylocke was forced to kill him. A resurrected Warren emerged but he became amnesiac. While Psylocke remained in Uncanny X-Force, she is under Cyclops at Utopia.

As a young man, Madison Jeffries volunteered to enlist as a soldier in Vietnam, alongside his younger brother Lionel. His brother went mad after he used his abilities to reshape organic materials to revive dead soldiers. Madison was forced to use his own powers to bind his brother. Lionel was committed to a psychiatric ward while Madison left the service.
Madison met and befriended a man named Roger Bochs at a clinic for physically disabled superheroes. The two became fast friends and Madison used his mutant powers to help Roger complete his ultimate creation: the Box robot. They were discovered by Dr. James MacDonald Hudson, a.k.a. Weapon Alpha, and recruited into the up and coming Alpha Flight program, established by Department H. Madison was sent to the third-tier Gamma Flight program while Bochs and Box reached the Beta Flight level. Madison had a brief relationship with fellow teammate Diamond Lil but they drifted apart for some time.
Lionel resurfaced as head of the New Life Clinic, where he used his mutant powers to heal injured members of Alpha Flight. However, Lionel had been experimenting, altering Bochs, now in Alpha Flight, so that he can impress teammate and girlfriend Aurora. Jealous with Aurora's former boyfriend Walter Langkowski and with his alterations deteriorating, Bochs joined with Bochs to attack Walter. Madison forcibly removed Boschs from Box, taking control of the robot. Bochs physically joined with Lionel to become Omega. Madison merged with Box to fight and destroy Omega.
As Box, Madison joined Alpha Flight where he formed a brief relationship with Heather Hudson and they were briefly engaged. However, Heather's ex-husband James was found alive, bringing an end to the engagement. Madison formed a relationship with Diamond Lil and they eventually married.
Alpha Flight was disbanded and subsequently reactivated. On the team's first mission, the criminal organization Zodiac kidnapped and brainwashed Madison, convincing him to become Gemini. Lil was kidnapped by Department H and experimented on. After both Madison and Lil were liberated, Madison was kidnapped by Weapon X, brainwashed and made to create the Neverland death camp. Diamond Lil was also kidnapped by Weapon X and taken to Neverland. When an internal schism forced Weapon X's Director to run away, Madison aided him.
Madison ended up trapped in a building with killer robots until he was rescued by Angel, Beast and Dr. Nemesis. Madison was recruited into the X-Men Science Team. When the X-Men relocated to the mutant island Utopia, Diamond Lil joined the mutant community established there. However, Lil was killed by Mortis during an attack launched by Selene. (Necrosha) Madison built a glass coffin for her and Lil was buried at sea. Madison later developed an attraction for Danger.

Bradley was the co-creator of the android Human Torch in the late 1930s with Professor Phineas T. Horton. He was mostly a silent partner in this endeavor and began building a second android. The two scientists were unable to correct the design flaw that would cause their android to burst into flames upon exposure to oxygen. Bradley preferred to resolve the issue before revealing their work to the public. However, Horton was eager for both fame and further financial backing, and he held a press conference in late 1939 to introduce the android. However, the Human Torch caught fire and it turned into a public relations disaster with the press labeling the android a menace. Bradley broke off the partnership.
Sometime before 1941, Bradley completed the second android who became the superhero, Volton the Human Generator from late 1941 to early 1942. Bradley led Volton to believe it was a scientist named Guy Newton who had discovered how to utilize his body's power to generate static electricity. Around this time, Bradley worked at Mercy Hospital in New York City and fought crime as Dr. Nemesis.
After a few adventurers, he was approached by members of the Third Reich to lead the superhuman Battle Axis team, which included Volton. He changed his alter-ego to Dr. Death. Dr. Death built the oscillotron which would cause a severe earthquake on the U.S. west coast. The devastation would force the U.S. to withdraw from the war to deal with its crisis at home. In the final confrontation with the U.S.'s Invaders, Dr. Death was able to get the oscillotron activated when he was struck down by Volton. Volton had learnt of his origins and Dr. Death's role in keeping it secret. Namor the Sub-Mariner was able to shutdown the machine and Dr. Death was left for dead. Bradley survived and returned to New York City. He repented and assumed his original Dr. Nemesis persona. He became engaged to his co-worker, Nurse Mary Strong.
After the war, he relocated to Buenos Aires to hunt down Nazi superscientists. Many years later, he was approached by Beast and Angel to join the X-Men's science club. On one of the X-Club's mission, they traveled back in time to obtain genetic samples from Bradley's parents to aid in their research. Bradley revealed to the team that he is one of the first of the modern wave of mutants and that his power of "self-evolved intellect", which allowed him to greatly extend his longevity through his own invented serums. Bradley's father was a brilliant radical inventor who managed to invent a self-powered electric light bulb and his mother is her husband's bodyguard. Bradley's father killed when he helped the X-Club stop the Hellfire Club's Sentinel from ravaging across San Francisco. Bradley's mother later died in childbirth as she was already in a weakened condition from the trauma of losing her husband. Unknown to the rest of the X-Men, Dr. Nemesis secretly traveled back in time to be the doctor of his own mother, essentially delivering himself. However, the X-Men was unable to obtain the couple's genetic samples.

Dr. Kavita Rao
Mutant Geneticist
Dr. Rao is a world-renowned geneticist from India who develop a serum, later called Hope, which could "cure" mutants. The X-Men discovered that Rao had been working with the alien Ord of Breadworld. The X-Men defeated Ord. Dr. Rao's work was destroyed by Wolverine, leaving Beast with the last sample of "Hope". Following M-Day and the depowering of the majority of the mutant population, Dr. Rao was one of the experts, which include villains, whom Beast seek out for help in undoing the effects. Dr. Rao agreed to aid Beast. When Beast and Angel (Warren Worthington) recruited members for the science squad, Dr. Rao was one of its members.

Alison was born in Gardendale, New York to Carter and Katherine Blaire. Her father wanted her to pursue a law degree but she was an aspiring singer. Her light-generating powers appeared when she was performing at a school dance she volunteered for. Everyone assumed it was a technologically-generated special effect. Using the stage name "Dazzler", Alison set out to make a name for herself in the music industry, using her light powers and dancing ability to enhance her performances. In one of her shows, she met the X-Men and helped them fight off an attack by the Hellfire Club. She subsequently helped the X-Men fight the new mutant Kitty Pryde. However, she turned down the X-Men's offer to join the team. She came to acquaint herself with various heroes and she used her powers to fight ordinary criminals and supervillains, including the then-mentally unstable Rogue. She also had a brief romantic affair with Warren Worthington III (Angel). In one of her adventures, she encountered the planet-devouring Galactus, who briefly turned her into his herald so that she can retrieve his herald Terrax for him. She rejected an offer to join the Avengers.
Alison moved to Los Angeles to help her half-sister Lois London, who has the mutant powers to kill anyone she touches. Influenced both by her lover, Roman Nekobah, and her desire to abate the growing anti-mutant sentiment, Alison publicly declared her mutant identity. However, the revelation backfired, destroying her reputation and career and inflaming anti-mutant sentiment, sending Alison into a depressive state. She spent time as a keyboard player in rock singer and fellow mutant Lila Cheney's band. Alison was later possessed by the psychic mutant Malice and was later saved and taken in by the X-Men.
While in the X-Men, Alison received training and attained greater control over her powers. She also developed a romance with fellow teammate Longshot. She was also forced to work alongside Rogue, now reformed, who tried to kill her before. She reconcilled with Rogue shortly after. The X-Men were forced to enter the mystical Siege Perilous to escape the cyborg Reavers. She ended up amnesiac and washed up on a beach where she was found by her former bodyguard Strong Guy. Strong Guy nursed her back to health and Alison's memories were restored after Longshot found her. Devastated by the loss of her career, Alison joined Longshot to travel to his native "Mojoworld" and remained there to help fight in the ongoing rebellion against the tyrant Mojo along with Lila Cheney.
Dazzler eventually returned to Earth without Longshot after an unfortunate series of events, including miscarriage. She joined Jean Grey's ad-hoc X-Men team to fight against Magneto, who was about to lead a war on humanity. After Magneto was defeated, Alison left the X-Men. She re-established her musical career. She moved her career to England and joined Captain Britain's Excalibur team. Dazzler later encountered an amnesiac Longshot. Longshot recovered his feelings for her and some of his memories and left his Exiles team to resestablish his relationship with Dazzler. However, they split ways due in part to Dazzler's frustration with other women's attraction to Longshot, in part due to his powers, but mainly because of the realization that Longshot was no longer the man she loved.

She hired young X-Man Pixie as part of her band and also formed a friendship with fellow X-Man Northstar. Dazzler joined the X-Men for several missions. History
Heather was a lifeguard in Surfer's Paradise, Australia living with her brother Davis. Unknown to them, their father was an Australian crimelord Viceroy. After the Viceroy was killed, the siblings were attacked but were saved by Storm's team of X-Men. Heather soon manifested her powers and joined the X-Men. She formed a romantic relationship with Thunderbird.
Her alien shi'ar nature manifested when her appearance changed to display shi'ar features.
Afraid of what this meant for him, Davis ran away from the X-Men. Thunderbird and Lifeguard left the X-Men to search for him. However, they eventually became members of X-Corporation Singapore before it was eventually disbanded after M-Day. Much later, she resurfaced as part of the X-Men Street Team.

Tabitha was born in Roanoke, Virginia. When her mutant powers manifested at 13, her parents showed their disgust and her father even beat her. She ran away from home and met the cosmic entity Beyonder. She later helped the Avengers ambush the Beyonder.
She was recruited by the Vanisher for her band of thieves called the Fallen Angels. She found her way to X-Factor (Original X-Men) and was taken in as a ward. She returned to the Fallen Angels for some adventures before returning to X-Factor and joining other wards to join the X-Terminators to battle demons during the demonic Inferno invasion.
The X-Terminators then joined the New Mutants where Tabitha fell in love with Cannonball. Cable soon became mentor of the New Mutants. When Tabitha and other mutants were kidnapped by Genoshan forces during the Xtinction Agenda crossover, the various X-teams infiltrated Genosha to rescue their teammates. Cable converted it into the paramilitary X-Force soon after. Boom Boom stayed with X-Force and renamed herself Boomer. She formed a relationship with Cannonball which was eventually broken when he joined the X-Men.
Later, Tabitha renamed herself Meltdown, donning a new costume and gained better control of her powers. She had a short fling with teammate Sunspot. X-Force was eventually disbanded. Tabitha joined Cable's Underground organization to bring about the downfall of Weapon X. However, the memories of Underground members were wiped with regards to the existence of Weapon X after a mission. Tabitha joined Cable's new X-Force to fight Skornn.
She joined the Nextwave team and after leaving the team relocated to San Francisco to join up with the other mutants. She fought the mutant Nuwa while shopping in San Francisco. She was later kidnapped along with Hellion and Surge by the Leper Queen. She was eventually rescued by Wolverine's X-Force. Boom Boom relocated to the mutant nation Utopia along with the other mutants and joined the X-Men, helping the team fend off an attack by Predator Xs and later fighting Bastion's minions during the Second Coming crossover. Following the schism between Cyclops and Wolverine, Tabitha remained behind in Utopia as part of the Street Team.

History
Noriko was born in Japan but ran away from home when she was thirteen after her powers manifested. She ended up living homeless on the streets of Salem Centre when she went to the Institute gates pleading for help. However, she was chased away by the student Hellion. She was eventually brought to the Institute by Wolfsbane, Elixir, Wind Dancer, Wallflower and Prodigy. Beast designed a pair of gauntlets that will regulates electricity powers. Nori became a student at Xavier and became roommates with the Muslim Dust. However, they had disagreements over the accepted role of women.
Noriko became part of the New Mutants student squad and eventually became a couple with teammate David Alleyne (Prodigy). Noriko retained her powers after M-Day and was placed as leader of the New X-Men student team. She led the New X-Men team through several missions. Fearing for the safety of David, who lost his powers after M-Day, Noriko began to push David away in the hopes of driving him away from the school and out of harm's way. Their relationship eventually ended.
Cyclops disbanded the X-Men and shut down the Institute after the Messiah Complex crossover. Surge made her way to Colorado seeking help from former mentor Dani Moonstar, who counseled Surge on how to deal with the pain that came with being a mutant. Surge rejoined the other mutants as they relocated to San Francisco. She aided the X-Men in fighting off the Skrull invasion.
She was later kidnapped along with Boom Boom and Hellion by the Sapien League before they were rescued by X-Force. Surge went on to help the X-Men in several missions.
Prodigy (David Alleyne)

History
David is a naturally intelligent boy. His manifested his powers as a teenager and realized that he had the ability to know anything people nearby him know. As a result, answers to his exams and assignments began to appear in his head whenever he was in the same room as his teachers. David became driven to study harder. He took college-level courses while finishing high school and attempted to keep his mutation a secret until the anti-mutant Purity group outed him to his parents and attempted to attack him. he was rescued by the librarian at his school, the former New Mutant Karma and her former teammate Dani Moonstar.
David enrolled at the Xavier Institute and became roommates with Josh Foley. David was initially hostile toward Josh due to the latter's past as an anti-mutant bigot before he discovered his own mutant powers. Later, David and Josh were part of the New Mutants student squad and David eventually became co-leader along with Surge. David underwent an illusion of a possible future in which he removed his mental blocks and was able to permanently retain the knowledge he absorbed. In this illusion created by Dani and Emma Frost, David gained the knowledge of the the most important and intellectual individuals in the world, bringing a near-utopia to Earth, albeit at the hidden cost of genocide and the killing of his friends and the X-Men. The illusion ended with Surge, his wife, overloading her powers and killing them both in order to stop him. This illusion caused David to reject having his mental blocks removed and caused him to ignore his feelings for Noriko. They eventually resolved their differences and David began a relationship with her.
David lost his powers after M-Day. Planning to leave the Institute, David revealed that he built a "Danger Cave" to replace the destroyed Danger Room before he lost his powers. David's parents and Cyclops decided it would be safer for him to remain at the mansion. David helped the New X-Men student team, using his natural intelligence to help his friends. Fearing for David's safety, Surge tried to push him away. Their relationship eventually came to an end. David was confronted by the Stepford Cuckoos, who removed his mental blocks, which restored all the past knowledge and skills he absorbed when he had his powers. David joined the other mutants who relocated to San Francisco. He has since assisted the X-Men in several missions in a non-fighting capacity.
Dust (Sooraya Qadir)

History
Dust is an adolescent Sunni Muslim girl born in Afghanistan. She was kidnapped by a slave-trading ring after she was separated from her mother. She was rescued by Wolverine who took her to X-Corporation Mumbai. She enrolled at the Xavier Institute and had the loud and rebellious Noriko (Surge) as roomate. They had disagreements over their views. Dust was placed in Xorn's Special Class but discovered Xorn's intended betrayal. She alerted Professor X but both were defeated as Xorn went on the rampage before he was stopped by the X-Men.
She was placed in the Hellions student squad and joined the New X-Men team after M-Day. She was the target for death of the Purifiers, who believed that she would go on to kill the Purifiers. However, the Purifiers were defeated.
After the Messiah Complex crossover, Cyclops disbanded the X-Men and shut off the Institute. Dust returned to Afghanistan but was tricked into joining the Young X-Men team by the cyborg Donald Pierce. She was tricked into fighting former New Mutant Magma. After the ruse was discovered, the Young X-Men rejoined the mutants in San Francisco. Her fight with Magma caused cell degradation and she was eventually healed by Ink.
She joined several X-Men missions, including fighting off alien Skrulls during their invasion of San Francisco; and fending off Nimrod and vampire invasions.
Loa (Alani Ryan)

Loa's grandmother, Alice Ryan, was an acquaintance of Prince Namor of Atlantis.
Loa was briefly seen to have a relationship with Elixir. It is unsure if anything came out of it.
He also joined Rogue, Magneto and Anole to travel to India with Indra to answer a family call where they fought the Children of the Vault.
Loa accompanied Emma Frost to the New Atlantis where she revealed herself to be well educated in Atlantean history, mythology and culture. She possessed a pendent passed down to her by her grandmother, which was given to her by Namor in the past. Loa helped the Atlanteans fight the underwater vampires known as the Aqueos.
Loa joined Namor, Dr. Strange, Lyra and Silver Surfer to form the Defenders to help fight Attuma, who had become a member of the Worthy. (Fear Itself)
Stepford Cuckoos, Three-In-One (Celeste, Irma Mindee, Phoebe)

History
Stepford Cuckoos were formerly the Five-In-One, along with Sophie and Esme. They were grown from ova cells harvested from Emma Frost by John Sublime where she was comatose following the Sentinel attack on her student Hellions. The Five-In-One were designated Weapon XIV in the Weapon Plus program. They were placed in the Xavier Institute when the school opened its doors to an expansive student group. They became the proteges of Emma Frost.
The telepath Quentin Quire had a crush on Sophie but was rejected. After learning that he was adopted, Quentin started a student riot with his Omega Gang, using the drug Kick to boost his powers. Wanting to stop Quentin, Sophie used the drug Kick to boost her powers, using Cerebra to do so. In the process, she overexerted herself and died. They held Emma Frost partially responsible for Sophie's death because she inspired Sophie to heroism. They informed Jean Grey that Emma Frost was about to conduct a psychic affair with Jean's husband Cyclops.
Esme soon collaborated with the X-Man Xorn, who disguised himself as Magneto. However, Xorn eventually killed Esme in a fit of anger.
When the students were reorganized into student squads, the Cuckoos were placed in Cyclops' Corsairs squad. Their origins were revealed and they each absorbed a Phoenix fragment. The fragment eventually vacated them and traveled back into Space.
The Stepford Cuckoos are currently placed on telepathic duties in Cerebra.
No-Girl (Martha Johnasson)

Martha was a mutant runaway who was captured by the U-Men. Their founder John Sublime had her brain removed, keeping the disembodied brain alive in a a capsule. Martha was controlled by drugs and syringes. She was eventually freed by X-Men Cyclops and Emma Frost and she took revenge on Sublime by mentally forcing him to fall to his death. Martha became a student in the Xavier Institute's Special Class under the mentorship of Xorn. Fellow student Quentin Quire invented a special hovering case to hold her brain, allowing her a level of mobility. Martha befriended another student, Ernst. When Xorn turned rogue, destroying the school and forming a new Brotherhood of Mutants, Martha and Ernst joined him. After Xorn was stopped, Martha returned to life as a student. After the X-Men relocated to Utopia, she stopped Quentin Quire's plan to destroy the island. Following the schism between Cyclops and Wolverine, Martha stayed with Cyclops and was recruited into the Five Lights team by Zero. Zero used his powers to give Martha a new physical body.

Megan is a Welsh teenager from the mining town Abergylid. For years, she believed that her father died in the mine and she was raised by her grandparents. After enrolling at the Xavier Institute, she was assigned to be part of the Paragons training squad under the tutelage of Wolfsbane. She was voted the Friendliest Student. Some time later, the Institute students were brought to the otherworldly Limbo. A group of students, including Pixie, fought demons and were saved by the Darkchilde/Magik, who was created by the Belasco, the ruler of Limbo, out of the memories of Illyana Rasputin. Pixie submitted to Magik's request to use her soul to create a Soulsword and Bloodstones. The process was interrupted by fellow student Anole, and only one Bloodstone and a Souldagger were created instead. The Souldagger was actually a portion of Pixie's soul and black magic now filled the hole left behind in the dagger's creation. A portion of her pink hair changed to black. Pixie was taught a teleportation spell by Magik and she used it to teleport the group of students to save the other students from Belasco. Magik was able to defeat Belasco. The students returned to the Xavier Institute and Pixie was added to the New X-Men team.
After Cyclops disbanded the X-Men (following Messiah CompleX), Pixie returned to her hometown. She found the demonic N'Garai kidnapping people to feed their leader, Kierrok the Damned. Pixie called in the X-Men to defeat Kierrok and N'Garai. Pixie then returned with the X-Men to America, where she joined the team in their new base in San Francisco. After leaving one of Dazzler's gigs, Pixie was attacked by a group of masked anti-mutant men calling themselves the Hellfire Cult. After a brief period of time questioning her desire to remain with the X-Men, Pixie returned in time to help the X-Men defeat Empath, leader of the Hellfire Cult.
Pixie reluctantly joined a group of X-Men to find Magik in Limbo where they fought Belasco's daughter, Witchfire. Witchfire forged a new Bloodstone from Pixie's soul before she was finally defeated by the X-Men and Magik. Magik returned to the X-Men but Pixie was despondent over losing more of her soul. Pixie soon discovered that her father was actually the deceased villain Mastermind (Jason Wyngarde). Shortly after, Pixie and the New Mutants team, in which Magik was a member, were captured by Project Purgatory on separate occasions. The Project succeeded in extracting the bloodstones from Pixie to summon the Elder Gods but both the Project and Elder Gods were defeated by the X-Men. After the battle, Magik gave Pixie a golden box containing her Souldagger and both her bloodstones.
Some time later, Pixie flirted with Five Lights member Velocidad, unaware that he had something going on with team leader Hope Summers. Pixie was packing to join Wolverine to return to Westchester following his schism with Cyclops when Hope approached her to join her team.
Crosta

History
Crosta is a member of the Homo Mermanus race (Atlantean). Crosta was secreted away by his mother after the abandonment of Atlantis, his father eventually brought him to the attention of their King Namor in a paternity suit.
When his mutant powers emmerged he was ordered by Namor to attend the X-Men's mutant school in San Francisco, rather than remain with his mother or join his father in Latveria with the Atlantean military, he violently rejected the idea, attacking Namor. Reined in by Namor, he was sent to the X-Men.
He was later shown in the waters below Utopia, guiding new Atlantean immigrants to the Citizen Intake Center at the base of the pillar supporting Utopia.

Charles Francis Xavier was born in New York City to the wealthy Brian Xavier, a well-respected nuclear scientist, and Sharon Xavier. After Brian died in an accident, his science partner Kurt Marko married Sharon. Kurt moved in with the Xaviers, bringing his son Cain. Kurt quickly grew neglectful of Sharon, driving her to alcoholism, and abused both Charles and Cain. Cain took out his frustrations and insecurities on his stepbrother. Charles used his telepathic powers to read Cain's mind and explore the extent of his psychological damage, which only led to Cain becoming more aggressive toward him. Sharon died soon after, and a fight erupted between Cain and Charles that caused some of Kurt's lab equipment to explode. Mortally wounded, Kurt dragged the two children out before dying, and admitted he was partly responsible for Brian's death.
With help from his powers and his natural genius, Xavier became an excellent student and athlete, though he gave up the latter, believing his powers give him an unfair advantage. Due to his powers, by the time he graduated from high school, Charles lost all of his hair. He graduated with honors at the age of 16 from Harvard University. In graduate studies he received Ph.D.s in Genetics, Biophysics, and Psychology with a two year residence at Pembroke College, Oxford University. At graduate school, he met a Scottish girl named Moira Kinross, a fellow genetics student with whom he fell in love. The two agreed to get married, but soon, Xavier is drafted into the Korean War. He carved himself a niche as a soldier in search and rescue missions alongside Kitty Pryde's father, Carmen Pryde and witnessed Cain's transformation into Juggernaut when he touched a ruby with an inscription on it in an underground temple. During the war, he received a letter from Moira telling him that she is breaking up with him. He later discovered that Moira married her old boyfriend Joseph MacTaggert.
Deeply depressed, Xavier began traveling around the world as an adventurer after leaving the army. In Cairo, he met a young girl named Ororo Munroe (later known as Storm), who was a pickpocket, and the Shadow King, a powerful mutant who was posing as Egyptian crime lord Amahl Farouk. Xavier defeated the Shadow King, barely escaping with his life. This encounter led to Xavier's decision to devote his life to protecting humanity from evil mutants and safeguarding innocent mutants from human oppression.
Xavier visited his friend Daniel Shomron, who ran a clinic for traumatized Holocaust victims in Haifa, Israel. There, he met Erik Lehnsherr (who would later become Magneto), a Holocaust survivor who worked as a volunteer in the clinic, and Gabrielle Haller, a woman driven into a catatonic coma by the trauma she experienced. Xavier used his mental powers to break her out of her catatonia and the two fell in love. Xavier and Magneto became good friends. The two held lengthy debates hypothesizing what will happen if humanity is faced with a new super-powered race of humans. While Xavier is optimistic, Magneto's experiences in the Holocaust led him to believe that humanity will ultimately oppress the new race of humans as they have done with other minorities. The two friends revealed their powers to each other when they fight Nazi Baron Wolfgang von Strucker and his HYDRA agents, who kidnap Gabrielle because she knew the location of their secret cache of gold. Magneto attempted to kill Strucker but Xavier stopped him. Realizing that his and Xavier's views on mutant-human relations are incompatible, Magneto left with the gold. Charles stayed in Israel for some time, but he and Gabrielle separated on good terms, neither knowing that she was pregnant with his son, who grows up to become the mutant Legion.
In a strange town near the Himalayas, Xavier encountered an alien calling himself Lucifer, the advance scout for an invasion by his race, and foiled his plans. In retaliation, Lucifer dropped a huge stone block on Xavier, crippling his legs. After Lucifer left, a young woman named Tessa heard Xavier's telepathic cries for help and rescued him, bringing him to safety, beginning a long alliance between the two. In a hospital in India he was cared for by an American nurse, Amelia Voght and they fell in love. When he was released from the hospital the two move into an apartment in Bombay together. They eventually move to the United States, living on Xavier's family estate. But the night Scott Summers moved into Xavier's mansion, Amelia left him, believing that mutants should lie low instead. Charles tried to force her to stay with his mental powers, but immediately ashamed by this, let her go. She later became a disciple of Magneto.
Charles made a name for himself as geneticist and psychologist, and the Greys referred to him to help their catatonic daughter, Jean. Xavier trained her in the use of her telekinesis, while inhibiting her telepathic abilities until she matures. Around this time, he also started working with fellow mutation expert, Karl Lykos, as well as Moira MacTaggert again, who built a mutant research station on Muir Island. Xavier also trained Tessa as a spy on Sebastian Shaw. Xavier founded Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters, which provide a safe haven for mutants and teaches them to master their abilities. In addition, he seek to foster mutant-human relations by providing his superhero team, the X-Men. The X-Men consisted of Cyclops, Marvel Girl, Angel, Beast and Iceman. With his inherited fortune, he uses his ancestral mansion at 1407 Graymalkin Lane in Salem Center, Westchester County, New York as a base of operations with technologically advanced facilities, including the Danger Room. Presenting the image of a stern teacher, Xavier makes his students endure a rigorous training regime. Among the obstacles Xavier faces was his old friend, Magneto, who had grown into an advocate of mutant superiority since their last encounter and who believed the only solution to mutant persecution is domination over humanity.
Xavier seemingly died during the X-Men's battle with the sub-human Grotesk. However, Xavier had arranged for a reformed former villain named Changeling to impersonate him while he went into hiding to plan a defense against an invasion by the extraterrestrial Z'Nox, imparting a portion of his telepathic abilities to the Changeling to complete the disguise. Changeling was the one who died. Xavier later reemerged to fight the Z'Nox.
When the X-Men are captured by the sentient island Krakoa, Xavier assembled a new team composed of Dr. MacTaggert's students, including Cyclops' and Havok's long-lost brother Vulcan, to rescue them.. However, after rescuing Cyclops, they were seemingly killed. Upon Cyclops' return, Xavier removed Cyclops' memories of the death of Vulcan and his teammates, and began assembling yet another team of X-Men. Xavier's subsequent rescue team consisted of Banshee, Colossus, Sunfire, Nightcrawler, Storm, Wolverine, and Thunderbird. After the mission, the older team of X-Men, except for Cyclops, left the school and Xavier mentored the new X-Men.
Xavier forms a psychic bond across galaxies with Princess Lilandra from the Shi'ar Empire. When they finally meet, it was love at first sight. She implored the professor to stop her mad brother, Shi'ar Emperor D'Ken, and he instantly aided her by deploying his X-Men. Later, when Jean Grey returned from a mission to the Savage Land to tell him that all the X-Men are dead, he shut down the school and traveled with Lilandra to her kingdom, where she was crowned Empress. Xavier sensed the changes taking place in Jean Grey, and returned to Earth to help and resume leadership of the X-Men. Shortly thereafter he battled his pupil after she became Dark Phoenix and destroyed a populated planet. Xavier challenged the Shi'ar Imperial Guard to a duel over the fate of the Phoenix. Phoenix later committed suicide in order to prevent herself from endangering more innocent lives.
Xavier was captured by the alien Brood and implanted with an egg which placed him under their control. During this time, Xavier assembled a team of younger mutants called the New Mutants, secretly intended to be prime hosts for reproduction of the Brood. The X-Men discovered this and returned to free Xavier, but they were too late to prevent his body from being destroyed with a Brood Queen in its place. The X-Men and Starjammers, intergalactic pirates led by Cyclops' father Corsair, subdued the monstrous creature containing Xavier's essence. A body was cloned using tissue samples he donated to the Starjammers and Xavier's consciousness was transferred into this body. This new body possessed functional legs, though the psychosomatic pain Xavier experienced after living so long as a paraplegic took some time to subside.
Xavier took a teaching position at Columbia University was the target of a hate crime. He was severely injured and left for dead. Callisto and her Morlocks, a group of underground-dwelling mutants, got him to safety. One of the Morlocks partially restored Xavier's health, but Callisto warned Xavier that he isn't fully healed and that he must spend more time recuperating and restrain himself from exerting his full strength or powers, or his health might fail again. Xavier hid his injuries from the others and resumed his life.
Charles met with former lover Gabrielle Haller on Muir Isle and discovered that they had a child. The boy, David, is autistic and suffers from multiple personality disorder and has vast psionic powers like his father.
A reformed Magneto was arrested and put on trial and Xavier attended the trial to defend his friend. Andrea and Andreas Strucker, the children of presumed dead Baron von Strucker, crashed the courtroom to attack Magneto and Xavier and Xavier was seriously injured. Dying, he asked a shocked Magneto to look after the X-Men for him. Lilandra, who had a psychic bond with Xavier, felt that he was in great danger and headed to Earth. There, she and Corsair took Xavier with them so Shi'ar advanced technology can heal him. Xavier served as a member of the Starjammers. He became consort to the Princess-Majestrix Lilandra while in exile, and when she later resumed her throne he took up residence with her in the Imperial palace on the Shi'ar homeworld. Xavier joined Lilandra in her cause to overthrow her sister Deathbird.
Xavier eventually became imprisoned by the Skrulls during their attempted invasion of the Shi'ar Empire. Xavier broke free from imprisonment by Warskrull Prime, and was reunited with the X-Men. A healthy Xavier returns to Earth and was reunited with both the current and original X-Men teams. In a battle with his old foe, the Shadow King, Xavier's spine was shattered, returning him to his former paraplegic state, while his son David was seemingly killed. In the following months, Xavier rebuilt the mansion and restructured the X-Men into two teams. While holding a mutant rights speech, Xavier was nearly assassinated by Stryfe in the guise of Cable, being infected with a fatal techno-organic virus. For reasons of his own, the villain Apocalypse saved him. As a temporary side-effect he gained full use of his legs and devoted his time to the youngest recruit on his team, Jubilee. With all his students now highly trained adults, Professor Xavier renamed his school the Xavier Institute For Higher Learning. He assumed control of a private institution, the Massachusetts Academy, making it the new School for Gifted Youngsters. Another group of young mutants was trained here, Generation X, with Banshee and Emma Frost as headmaster and headmistress, respectively.
In a fight between Magneto and the X-Men, Magneto used his powers to rip out the adamantium bonded to Wolverine's skeleton. A furious Xavier wiped Magneto's mind, leaving him in a coma. From the psychic trauma of Xavier using his powers so violently and the mixing of Magneto's and Xavier's repressed anger, the evil psionic entity Onslaught is born. Professor X was the unknowing host of Onslaught for a time until it emerged. Onslaught wreaked havoc, destroying much of Manhattan, until many of Marvel's superheroes—including the Avengers, the Fantastic Four and the Hulk—destroy him at the seeming course of their lives. Xavier lost his telepathy and, overcome with guilt, left the X-Men and was incarcerated for his actions. He was turned over to Operation: Zero Tolerance, headed by the mutant-hating Bastion. He was released after Bastion was captured by government forces. He aided a Brotherhood of mutants and fought with a sentient Cerebro and a team of impostor X-Men before returning to the X-Men. A short while later, Magneto was handed the sovereignty of the island nation of Genosha.
Xavier was among the fabled "Twelve" mutants kidnapped by Apocalypse, whose combined energies would grant him omnipotence. After Apocalypse's defeat with the help of Skrull mutants, Xavier went with the young Skrulls known as Cadre K to train them and free them from their oppressors, and eventually returned to aid in Legacy Virus research. Mystique and her Brotherhood started a deadly assault on Muir Isle by releasing an altered form of the Legacy Virus, all in retaliation against the election campaign of Robert Kelly, a seeming mutant-hater. Mystique blew up Moira MacTaggert's laboratory complex, fatally wounding her. Charles went to the astral plane to meet with her and retrieve information on the cure to the Legacy Virus before Moira passed away.
Afted Beast cured the Legacy Virus, many infected Genoshan mutants recover overnight, providing Magneto, current ruler of Genosha, with an army to start a war against humans. He demanded that Earth's governments accept him as their leader, and abducted and crucified Xavier in Magda Square to rally his army. Amelia Voght, in Magneto's army, could not stand to see her former lover punished in such a manner and set him free. Jean Grey led an ad-hoc team of X-Men to distract Magneto and Wolverine gutted him.
Xavier's evil twin Cassandra Nova, whom Xavier attempted to kill while they were both in their mother's womb, ordered a group of rogue Sentinels to destroy Genosha. Magneto, appeared to die along with the vast majority of the nation's inhabitants. Nova then took over Xavier's body. Posing as Xavier, she revealed his mutation to the world before going into space and crippling the Shi'ar Empire. The X-Men restored Xavier, but Lilandra, believing that too much disaster had come from the Shi'ar's involvement with the X-Men, annulled her marriage to Xavier. The Chinese mutant Xorn joined the X-Men and used his healing power to restore Xavier's use of his legs. Soon after, the X-Men brought in Juggernaut and both Charles and Cain reconciled.
After a school riot led by student Quentin Quire which led to the deaths of some students, Xavier stepped down as headmaster and was succeeded by Jean Grey. Later, Xorn revealed himself as Magneto, impersonating him. Xorn kidnapped Xavier, then destroyed the Xavier Institute and New York City. The X-Men arrived and in the ensuing fight, Magneto killed Jean Grey. Wolverine killed Magneto in retaliation. Xavier left the Institute for Genosha with Xorn's body. With the world at large believing Xorn to be the real Magneto, Xavier was met in Genosha by Magneto himself. They formed a team of mutants to try to rebuild Genosha.
Cyclops and Emma Frost became co-headmasters of the Institute. The Danger Room gained sentience and took a humanoid form as Danger. Danger attacked the X-Men then traveled to Genosha in an attempt to kill Xavier. Magneto held Danger back until the X-Men arrived. Danger revealed that Xavier had known that she had gained sentience years ago after he upgraded it. Danger fled and the disgusted X-Men left.
Magneto's daughter, the Scarlet Witch, suffered a mental breakdown and causes the death of several Avengers. Magneto brought her to Xavier and asked him to use his mental powers to help her. Although aided by Doctor Strange, Xavier was unsuccessful. Xavier ordered a meeting of the X-Men and Avengers to decide Wanda's fate. Her brother Quicksilver, believing the heroes' plan was to kill her, sped off to Genosha and convinced Wanda to create an alternate reality. In this 'House of M' reality, Magneto is the ruler of the world with a dominant mutant population. The heroes regained memories of the real world with the help of Wolverine and a young Layla Miller and they confronted Magneto. Magneto confronted Quicksilver and in a fit of anger, Wanda reverted reality to its original state but depowered the majority of the mutant population. Xavier went missing.
Vulcan was reawakened soon after and attacked the X-Men, confronting Xavier who had returned, now able to walk but without the use of his powers. Xavier revealed to the X-Men about his recruitment of a team from Moira's students, their fate and his removal of Cyclops' memories of Vulcan all those years ago. Vulcan left for the Shi'ar Empire to seek vengeance for their involvement in his mother's death. Xavier led a team of X-Men into space to stop Vulcan. Xavier was captured and thrown into the M'Kraan Crystal where he regained his powers before he was pulled out by the X-Man Darwin. Unable to deal with Vulcan, Lilandra sent Xavier back to Earth with some of his X-Men. The rest of the X-Men joined the Starjammers to form a resistance against Vulcan, who managed to overthrow Emperor D'Ken and become Emperor of the Shi'ar Empire.
At the end of the events in Messiah CompleX in which different factions try to capture the first baby born since M-Day, Xavier was accidentally shot in the head by Bishop. He was kidnapped by Exodus, who enlisted a depowered Magneto to help him heal Xavier. Exodus tried to make Xavier lead his Acolytes team to recover the messiah child but Xavier refused. Though Xavier was healed, he lost some memories. He went on a quest to search for his missing memories. In the process, Xavier discovered about Sinister's involvement in setting him up as a potential host for Sinister. He also helped Wolverine with his amnesiac son Daken. Later, he recruited Gambit to locate the missing Rogue. In the former X-Men base in the Australian Outback, they rescued Rogue from a revenge scheme set up by Danger and Xavier convinced Danger to give up her revenge. Xavier and Danger managed to help Rogue control her powers. Xavier returned to the US to persuade Exodus to disband his Acolytes, after which he was kidnapped by Norman Osborn, head of the peacekeeping HAMMER agency. Xavier was imprisoned in Alcatraz as Mystique impersonated him.
After Osborn was stopped, Xavier was among the mutants now living in the Utopia island. When Magneto arrived at Utopia in an attempt to join the X-Men under Cyclops, Xavier attacked Magneto telepathically, believing that he did not come for peaceful purposes. Cyclops accepted Magneto into the X-Men and Xavier later apologized to Magneto for his actions. When his son Legion was brought in, he turned to caring for him.
Following the schism between Cyclops and Wolverine, Xavier visited Wolverine at his newly established Jean Grey School. However, Xavier continued to stay in Utopia with his son Legion.

History
David Haller was the son of Charles Xavier and Holocaust survivor Gabrielle Haller. By the time Charles learned of his son, the teenage boy had been overtaken by multiple personalities.
He was sent to the Muir Island facility to be cared for by Moira MacTaggart.
When the Shadow King attacked the Muir Island facility, he possessed David, using his powers to psychically increase the amount of hatred in the world and feed off this malignant energy. Shadow King was defeated by X-Men and X-Factor (original X-Men) after which David went into a coma. Few years later, he woke up with his fractured mind healed.
Hoping to help his father realise his goal of peaceful coexistence between humans and mutants, he travelled to the past with the intent of killing Magneto before he would launch his war on humanity.
However, he ended up killing his father when Charles selflessly dove in front of Magneto to save his life. This created the Age of Apocalypse reality in which Magneto became the one who formed the X-Men and the mutant warlord Apocalypse managed to take over North America. Eventually, Bishop managed to return to the point in time just before Legion was going to accidentally kill Xavier, taking the blow instead. Legion seemingly died as a result of the energies unleashed.
However, he did not die. He was brought in by the New Mutants X-Men squad and received treatment for his multiple personalities in Utopia. He was kept sedated along with other evil mutants in Utopia but was released to help the X-Men in repelling Bastion's invading forces. It was revealed that Legion was brought back to Earth by Magik to kill the Elder Gods.
A rogue personality in the form of Moira MacTaggert manifested, re-creating reality into the Age of X one in which mutants were isolated on an island and fought off anti-mutants on an almost daily basis. Legion's involvement was discovered and Legion accessed Moira's powers to return reality to its original state. Shortly after, several of his personalities managed to manifest themselves physically. Charles Xavier formed a team of X-Men to bring these personalities in.
Hepzibah

History
Hepzibah's race, the Mephitisoids were conquered by the Shi'ar. Hating their oppressors, the Mephitisoids led numerous revolts before being placed under permanent martial law. When Hepzibah was treated cruelly by her guards, Corsair rebelled, leading to them eventually forming the Starjammers together with Ch'od and Raza.
She soon fell in love with Corsair and the two were bonded for life. After Corsair was killed by his son, Vulcan, Hepzibah was sent to Earth along with the X-Men by Shi'ar Majestrix Lilandra to Earth. On Earth, she formed a relationship with X-Man Warpath.

I'm trying to catch up with the Dazzler, is she still an X-Man and is she appearing regularly in an X-title?
She is currently an X-Man on Cyclops' side but only makes brief appearances in the Uncanny X-Men title.
