All-New Marvel Now: Wolverine and the X-Men (2014 - Present), (2011 - 2014)

Wolverine and the X-Men is an ongoing title written by Jason Latour and pencilled by Mahmud Asrar.  It focuses on Wolverine's staff and students in the Jean Grey School. The first series written by Jason Aaron ended with #42 in February 2014 and was relaunched in March 2014.

The title was the flagship team of Team Wolverine during Regenesis. It continues to feature Wolverine's X-Men during Marvel Now.

Cyclops' team can be found in Uncanny X-Men, the original X-Men can be found in All-New X-Men while Storm's team can be found in X-Men

The Jean Grey School first fended off an attack by the new Hellfire Club [WatXM #1 - #3]. Shortly after, the School welcome new students - Angel who seemed to have lost his memory, and Genesis, a young clone of Apocalypse [#4]. Wolverine took student Quentin Quire to a space casino in order to earn enough money to keep the school going. Kitty Pryde became seemingly pregnant but was in fact invaded by microscopic Brood in her body. As the alien Professor Xanto Starblood arrived to kill Broo, the X-Men became miniaturized and enter Kitty Pryde's body in an attempt to end the Brood infestation. With the infestation ended, the X-Men returned to stop Starblood. Wolverine's adventure ended in disaster with his legs injured [WatXM #5 - #7] The Hellfire Club hired Sabretooth to take revenge on the X-Men by attacking Beast's girlfriend Abigail Brand, director of S.W.O.R.D. (Sentient Worlds Observation and Response Department) and its orbital base, the Peak. Beast and Brand manage to stop Sabretooth. Meanwhile, a group of students made their way to the space casino to retrieve the means to reverse Wolverine's injury. [WatXM  #8]

In 2012, in the event Avengers vs X-Men, the arrival of the Phoenix Force triggered a war between the Avengers and the X-Men with the former believing that the Phoenix is a destructive force that will lay waste to the planet and the latter believing that the Phoenix will reignite the dying mutant race.

Wolverine and Beast make a decision to fight on the Avengers side. [WatXM  #9] As the X-Men lost the fight on the island nation Utopia, they escape via teleportation. Cyclops, Emma Frost and Magik made their way to the Jean Grey School to try to enlist other X-Men to their cause. [WatXM  #10] Marvel Girl, Iceman, Gambit and Angel join in the fight against the Avengers. Meanwhile, Wolverine helped Hope Summers, believed to be the host for the Phoenix, make her to the moon to meet the Phoenix. [WatXM  #11]

The war came to a head on the moon when the Phoenix was divided between five mutants - Cyclops, Emma Frost, Namor, Colossus and Magik. The Phoenix Five went about changing the world for the better. As the Avengers became outlawed, they captured Hope Summers in order to find a way to stop Phoenix. Marvel Girl led a team of X-Men to try to take back Hope. Marvel Girl managed to fight past the Avengers to find Hope but decided to let her go. [WatXM #12] Ruler of the Shi'ar Empire, Gladiator made his way to Earth to take his son Kid Gladiator, with the fear that the Phoenix Force will destroy the Earth. He led Shi'ar foces and Warbird to find his son on Utopia. However, he was defeated by the Phoenix Five. Warbird and Kid Gladiator took Gladiator to the Jean Grey School to recuperate. [WatXM #13] Colossus arrived to date Kitty Pryde. However, they had disagreements. When they returned to the School, Colossus was about to destroy the School but was stopped by Pryde. Marvel Girl, Iceman, Gambit and Angel returned to the School, feeling that their decision to join Cyclops was wrong. [WatXM #14] Utopia's students joined the Jean Grey School and Angel was promoted into a teacher's assistant position. Gladiator recovered and made his son return to the Shi'ar Empire. He also made Warbird stay on Earth and she eventually became the art teacher. [WatXM #15] Meanwhile, the Hellfire Club was captured by the Phoenix Five but Kilgore was able to engineer his escape, taking the Club members to Salem Center. [WatXM #16] At Salem Center, Kilgore established a fake church to manipulate Idie while other members of the Club managed to recruit Glob Herman to their cause. At the school dance, Broo was disappointed when Idie chose Quentin as dance partner. He made it to the fake church where he was shot in the head by Kilgore. Meanwhile, Husk quit the School after Kitty Pryde confronted her for her erratic behavior. [WatXM #18] Unknown to all members of the School, Doop had been recruited by Wolverine to deal with threats in his own way. [WatXM #17]

Following the end of the Avengers vs X-Men event, new mutants emerge and two of them, Jia Jing and Eye Boy, join the student body. Angel managed to regain control of his company with the help of Matt Murdock, and installed a new board of directors with several of his students. Storm was recruited as a staff member of the School. [WatXM #19]

Frankenstein's monster took his group of followers to Salem Center to find the last member of Frankenstein's family, Maximilian von Katzenelnbogen. Maximilian was in Salem Center to attempt to bring Oya into the Hellfire Academy. The X-Men were ensnared under powerful magical mind control by the evil witch Calcabrina, working under Frankenstein's monster, and became the attractions of their circus. Students Quentin Quire, Rockslide, Genesis, Sharkgirl and Eye-Boy help freed the X-Men while Oya worked with Maximilian to fight Frankenstein's monster. Both Frankenstein's monster and Calcabrina managed to escape. Maximilian fully embraced his Frankenstein heritage. Calcabrina was recruited by Azazel, who appeared with what appeared to be many Bamfs. [WatXM #20-#23]

Icemand and Kitty Pryde went on a date. Wolverine and Storm developed an attraction. Wolverine helped Storm cut a mohawk hairstyle as she accepted Kitty Pryde's offer to take over as headmistress while she turned her attentions on helping the teenage original X-Men who had arrived at the present. Broo woke up from his comatose state. However, he remained in a feral state but obedient to Oya. [WatXM #24]

Wolverine organized a field trip to the Savage Land for the problematic students Quentin Quire, Glob Herman, Oya and Broo as well as the new students Genesis, Sprite (Jia Jing), Shark-Girl and Eye-Boy. Wolverine was taken out by his brother Dog, who arrived from the past. Dog took on the students, with the desire to prove that he is the better brother. He led the students to fight the cavemen, cowboys and robots that he transported there. Wolverine returned to take back the students and Dog teleported away. Glob Herman left with Sauron. [WatXM #25-#28] Back at the Jean Grey School, Wolverine led the school in preparing a time capsule. The time capsule was found by a future Wolverine who had no memory of it. He prepared a message for his young self to never forget about the past. Oya defected to the new Hellfire Academy. [WatXM #29]

Beast traveled to the S.W.O.R.D. orbital base with Broo to let Professor Xanto Starblood look into Broo's condition. However, the base was attacked by the Philistine who teleported Xanto and Broo away. Quentin Quire discovered Oya's defection by mind reading a Bamf and he decided to defect too, along with Toad. Quentin wanted to help Oya while Toad wanted to help his beloved Husk, a Hellfire Academy faculty member. They eventually turned on the Hellfire Academy faculty. The Black King Kade Kilgore offered Oya the Black Queen position but revealed that he was the one who shot Broo. Oya attacked Kilgore but decided against killing him. Wolverine used the Bamfs to follow a trail to find his defected students, finding and fighting Lord Deathstrike. Meanwhile, Beast, Rachel Grey and Storm discovered the Hellfire Academy's location from Krakoa and the X-Men departed for the Academy. With the Academy under attack by the X-Men, the other three Inner Circle members turned on Kilgore. While the Black Bishop and White King were dealt with by Kilgore, he was injured by the White Queen. The Philistine took the White Queen into the Siege Perilous while Dog took Kilgore into the same portal. Meanwhile, Toad helped Husk return to her normal self. Xanto Starblood escaped with Broo but the latter was somehow returned to normal by Nightcrawler. Broo took down Xanto and returned to the X-Men. The X-Men returned with Quentin, Oya, Broo, Toad, Husk, White King and Black Bishop back to the Jean Grey School. The rest of the Hellfire Academy student body were picked up by Sabretooth and Mystique. [WatXM #30- #35]

The X-Men were next involved in the Battle of the Atom crossover, fighting the Brotherhood of the future.

Wolverine went on a mission to destroy S.H.I.E.L.D's stock of Sentinels, during which he met and teamed up with Cyclops. Meanwhile, the students uncovered two undercover S.H.I.E.L.D agents masquerading as students. [WatXM #38 - #40] Toad was evicted from the School for his role in the Hellfire Academy and Husk promised him a date for his help in returning her to her normal self. Toad did not turn up for the date, instead choosing to accompany Baron Maximilian after his escape from the Jean Grey School. [WatXM #41] Several students, including Quentin Quire, graduated from the School. In the future, Wolverine was about to close the School when Quentin led several prospective students from the Negative Zone into the School. [WatXM #42]

Headmaster
Wolverine (James Howlett)
Powers
Enhanced senses, adamantium claws, healing factor
History
Born in the last years of the 19th century, Wolverine had a convoluted life before he joined the X-Men (in 1975 publication time). He went on to become a long-time X-Man, having an unrequited love for fellow X-Man Jean Grey. Following a disagreement with Cyclops over the use of the young mutants to fight the mutant-hunting robot Sentinel, he took several X-Men and young mutants to the former grounds of the Xavier Institute for Higher Learning and established the Jean Grey Institute.
[For more on the history of Wolverine, check out his profile page here.]

Headmistress
Storm (Ororo Iqadi T'Challa)
Powers
Weather control
History
Ororo's mother, N'Dare, is the princess of a tribe in Kenya and descended from a long line of African witch-priestesses with white hair, blue eyes and a natural gift for sorcery. N'Dare fell in love with American photojournalist David Munroe and married him. They moved to Harlem in uptown New York City, where Ororo was born. They moved to Egypt and lived there until Ororo's parents died during the Suez Crisis in a botched aircraft attack, leaving six-year old Ororo as an orphan. Buried under tons of rubble after that attack, Ororo suffered from claustrophobia. She eventually found her way out and became a skilled thief in Cairo under the benign Achmed el-Gibar. She encountered Charles Xavier and stole from him but Charles was able to use his mental powers to prevent Ororo from escaping. When he was attacked by the malevolent Amahl Farouk, the Shadow King, Ororo was able to escape. As a young woman, Ororo wandered into the Serengeti. When Storm made her way to Kenya, she was saved by a young T'Challa (later the Black Panther) from racist thugs. They shared a brief romance. Ororo made her way back to her native village where she used her powers to provide rain and was worshiped as a goddess.

When the original X-Men was captured by the living island Krakoa, Xavier traveled to recruit Ororo, recognizing her as the young girl who attempted to steal from him years ago. Ororo initially had trouble adjusting to Western culture but adapted soon after. After Cyclops took a leave of absence, Ororo became leader. She harbored motherly feelings for the young Kitty Pryde. Later, when the X-Man Angel was kidnapped by the disenfranchised mutants Morlocks, Storm challenged their leader Callisto to a duel. Despite already being rendered sick by the Morlock known as Plague, Storm defeated Callisto by impaling her through the heart, nearly killing her. Storm was usually a serene and independent person but her outlook of life started to darken. Storm became influenced by the ronin Yukio, a friend of Wolverine whom she became fast friends with. She changed her costume and spotted a Mohwak hairstyle, establishing a punk look and attitude. This change alienated her from Kitty. Storm soon lost her powers to a mutant power neutralizing gun that was intended for another X-Man Rogue but accidentally shot her. The gun was developed by the mutant Forge. Forge helped Storm cope with her life without powers in his home in Dallas, Texas and they fell in love. However, when Storm overheard a conversation between Forge and Gyrich, the government operative who fired the gun, she discovered that Forge had built the gun. She was heartbroken and left him. Storm made her way back to the X-Men, where she challenged Cyclops to the leadership. Even though she was powerless, she managed to defeat Cyclops, who left the X-Men to be with his wife, Madelyne Pryor. She changed back to her original look and joined the Hellfire Club together with Magneto. She became trapped in another dimension with Forge where she regained her elemental powers. They emerged in time to help the X-Men defeat the Adversary, apparently dying in the process. The X-Men were resurrected by the Omniversal Majestrix Roma. With the world believing them dead, they established a new base in the Australian Outback. She was later apparently killed by the evil cyborg Nanny but was in fact physically regressed back to childhood by Nanny. As a child, she was hunted by the Shadow King and framed for murder. She was rescued by the mutant Gambit and they formed a thieving partnership. She was kidnapped to the island Genosha by the mutant-hating government where she was transformed into a brainwashed mutate. In the end, she was restored physically and mentally back to her adult state and her brainwashing was reversed.

After the various X-teams defeated the Shadow King, the X-Men were reorganized into two teams, with Cyclops and Storm as the leaders of the respective teams. Forge proposed to Storm but she hesitated. Before Storm can respond, he rescinded his offer and departed. They eventually made up with each other. Much later, Storm led a breakaway team of X-Men to recover the lost prophetic Destiny's Diaries. The team became the Xtreme Sanctions Executive, a United Nations approved task force policing mutants given worldwide authority. They returned back to the Xavier Institute following its destruction at the hands of Xorn.

Storm resumed her romance with T'Challa, the King of Wakanda, which led to their marriage. Both Storm and Black Panther briefly joined the Fantastic Four. Later, Storm rejoined the X-Men, managing her duties with the X-Men and as the Queen of Wakanda. Following the schism, Storm stayed with Cyclops to help keep an eye on the strong personalities in the team. She also joined the Avengers.

Following the Avengers vs X-Men event, she joined the Jean Grey School and took over Kitty Pryde as Headmistress.

Vice Principal
Beast (Hank 'Henry' McCoy)
Powers
Superhuman strength, agility and durability; enhanced senses; healing factor; night vision; razor-sharp claws, pheromone excretion
History
Henry was born in Dundee, Illinois, in the United States, to Norton and Edna McCoy. His father, Norton McCoy, was employed at a local nuclear power plant before Henry's birth and was once exposed to intense nuclear radiation, which appeared to have caused his son's mutation. Hank was born with a vast intellect, unusually long arms and legs, and unusually large hands and feet for a human. As he dealt with animosity, he was invited by Charles Xavier into his Institute for Gifted Youngsters. As Beast, he was one of the original five X-Men alongside Cyclops, Marvel Girl (Jean Grey), Iceman and Angel (Warren Worthington).

He left the X-Men to become a research scientist at the Brand Corporation where he was forced to ingest a serum he created in prevent his research from being stolen. As a result, he grew grey fur which eventually became blue and gained an ape-like form. He joined the super-team Avengers and later the Defenders before rejoining his former X-Men teammates to form X-Factor. While at X-Factor, he was subjected was a serum which removed his blue fur. He was touched by Apocalypse' Horseman Pestilence during a battle. Pestilence's powers interacted with the serum in a way that whenever Beast used his superhuman strength, his intelligence decreased. Later, an encounter with the mutant Infectia, capable of manipulating molecular structure through touch, caused Hank to eventually regain his furry appearance and intelligence. During this period of time, he romanced Trish Tilby, a reporter.

X-Factor eventually rejoined the X-Men after the various X-teams defeated the malevolent psychic entity Shadow King. He dedicated time to developing a cure for the mutant-killing Legacy virus. For a period of time, he was captured and replaced by the Dark Beast from the Age of Apocalypse reality. He escaped and return to the X-Men, eventually finding a cure for the virus based on the notes of geneticist Moira MacTaggert, who was killed by Mystique and her Brotherhood. Beast joined Storm's team of X-Men to recover the Destiny's Diaries, a series of books with predictions of the future. However, he was severely injured on the first mission by Vargas and he returned to the Xavier Institute. He was affected by the emergence of secondary mutations, gaining a feline physique. He was humiliated by the malevolent psychic Cassandra Nova and badly beaten up by a mind-controlled student Beak. Cassandra's genocidal plot was eventually stopped. Beast's relationship with Trish ended with her unable to accept his new look.

When news of a cure for mutation broke out, he was tempted. However, when he discovered that the cure was developed by fellow geneticist Dr. Kavita Rao based on experimentation on mutants, he helped the X-Men shut down her operation. After the X-Men relocated to San Francisco, Beast and Archangel (Warren Worthington) recruited scientists, including a now reformed Dr. Rao, to form the X-Club. Beast also met and later romanced S.W.O.R.D. Director Abigail Brand, joining the organization after a disagreement with Cyclops' method led to him leaving the X-Men. Hank also joined the Secret Avengers team.

When Wolverine built the Jean Grey School for Higher Learning, Hank took the chance to rejoin the X-Men. He remains in the Secret Avengers team.

Senior Staff Member
Iceman (Robert "Bobby" Drake)
Powers
Organic ice control
History
Robert Drake was born in Floral Park, Long Island, New York, to William Robert Drake and Madeline Beatrice Bass-Drake. His powers first manifested when he was on a date and a local bully tried to take his date for himself. Robert pointed his finger at the bully and unwittingly encased him in a block of ice. The local townspeople, came looking for him in the form of an angry mob and the local sheriff had no choice but to put Robert in jail for his own protection. While Robert was sitting in his cell at the sheriff station, the outer wall was blown open by Cyclops and a brief fight ensued before they were stopped by Charles Xavier. Charles suggested to Robert's parents that he be enrolled into his School for Gifted Youngsters and his parents agreed. As Iceman, Robert became the youngest of the original five X-Men alongside Cyclops, Marvel Girl (Jean Grey), Beast and Angel (Warren Worthington). He briefly romanced Polaris, who shortly after left for Havok instead. He left when the new X-Men team came in, attending UCLA. He joined the super-team Champions, then Defenders, before joining his former X-Men teammates to form X-Factor. An encounter with the Asgardian trickster god Loki led to Iceman losing control of his abilities. During a battle with the anti-mutant Right, he was fitted with a power-dampening belt which helped him control his abilities. He gained sufficient control over his augmented powers and he stopped using the belt. Later, Robert developed a romantic relationship with Opal Tanaka.

X-Factor rejoined the X-Men and Iceman became a long-time X-Man. Iceman's relationship with Opal deteriorated with Robert's father displaying prejudices towards her Japanese heritage over a meal. As Iceman started to neglect her, she eventually broke off their relationship. When Iceman was checking on Emma Frost, who was in a comatose state after she was attacked by mutant Trevor Fitzroy and his Sentinels and placed in the Xavier mansion, there was an electricity breakdown. Emma woke up in the body of Iceman and used his powers in ways he had never used before. She eventually left Iceman's body. Robert invited Rogue to lunch with his parents but it ended badly when his father assumed a romantic relationship and verbally attacked them with the same prejudices he expressed with Opal. Iceman and Rogue then went on a road trip to ease their mind, with Rogue having problems with Gambit. Iceman eventually returned to the X-Men. When Graydon Creed was running for President with a anti-mutant campaign, Iceman was chosen to infiltrate the campaign. Iceman's father stood stood up in a crowd and spoke in favor of mutants, which surprised Iceman as his father had previously expressed prejudices. His father's connection with Robert was discovered and the people who worked for Graydon captured his father and almost beat him up to death. Robert left the X-Men to be with his dad. Iceman was captured to be part of Apocalypse' Twelve. Apocalypse intended to harness the powers of the Twelve but his plot was ended by Nate Grey and Cyclops.

Iceman eventually returned to the X-Men. Iceman received a chest wound during a heated battle with Black Tom but due to a secondary mutation, his wound remained icy. When Iceman's body was shattered from the neck down by the demonic Azazel, he was able to reconstitute an ice form but was unable to change back to human. Following M-Day and the depowering of most of the mutant population, he found himself to be flesh and blood again and believed himself to have lost his powers. He soon discovered that he had actually lost his secondary mutation and is now able to revert from ice to flesh. A brief relationship with Polaris did not last. Iceman continued serving in the X-Men.

When Wolverine decided to open the Jean Grey School for Higher Learning, he approached Iceman first and recruited him into the teaching staff. Wolverine also prompted Iceman to develop his Omega potential.

Senior Staff Member
Marvel Girl (Rachel Grey/Summers)
Powers
Virtually unlimited telepathic and telekinetic powers
History
Rachel Summers came from an alternate future (Days of Future Past) in which mutants were either killed or incarcerated by mutant-hunting robot Sentinels. In that reality, she is the daughter of Cyclops and Jean Grey. She was captured and made to become a hound, hunting other mutants for her masters. She was sent to the present by that reality's Kitty Pryde. In the present, she realized that Jean Grey is believed dead and Cyclops was married to Madelyne Pryor, who was pregnant. She joined the X-Men for a short period of time. She left after she attempted to kill Selene, Black Queen of the Hellfire Club, but was stopped by Wolverine. Badly injured, she was lured into Spiral's Body Shoppe.

She managed to escape and she eventually joined the British team Excalibur where she formed a good friendship with this reality's Kitty Pryde. After several failed attempts at bonding with Jean Grey, who had returned, she finally succeeded and was present at Jean's wedding to Cyclops. When her teammate Captain Britain was lost in the timestream, she traded places with him. She ended up two thousand years in a future where the world was conquered by Apocalypse. She gathered a group of rebels to form the Askani. As Mother Askani, she was involved in sending a member of the Askani to the past to bring her brother Nathan forward in time to help him recover from the techno-organic virus. The Askani cloned Nathan in case he was not able to survive the virus. Apocalypse's followers attacked the Askani and took the clone (who would later become the villain Stryfe), leaving Mother Askani critically injured. On life support, she drew the minds of Cyclops and Jean Grey into the future as Slym and Redd to raise Cable. She died ten years later, returning Cyclops and Jean Grey back to the past seconds after they had left.

She became lost in the time-stream until Cable rescued her and returned her to the present. She was kidnapped by telepath Elias Bogan, former Lord Imperial of the Hellfire Club, before the X-Men rescued her. She rejoined the X-Men, taking the Marvel Girl codename and changing her surname from Summers to Grey in memory of her 'mother' Jean Grey, who had just died. She began to spend time with Jean's family but they were killed by the alien Shi'ar Death Commandos under orders to prevent the Phoenix from taking on another Grey as host. She was part of the team that traveled to space to stop Cyclops' long lost brother Vulcan from wrecking revenge on the alien Shi'ar Empire for the death of his mother. She remained in space as part of the Starjammers along with fellow X-Men Havok and Polaris and formed a relationship with the Shi'ar warrior Korvus. After several adventures in space, they were ready to return. Rachel sent a telepathic call which was picked up by Rogue.  Rogue led a team of X-Men to get them back to Earth. Rachel decided to join Wolverine's school as senior staff member.

Angel's friend Cameron Hodge, X-Factor's manager, was secretly the leader of the mutant-hating Right organization. He orchestrated the amputation of Angel's wings and the airplane accident that seemingly killed Angel. Angel was rescued by Apocalypse prior to the explosion. Using his otherworldly Celestial technology, Apocalypse grafted metal wings to Angel and made him Death, one of his Four Horsemen. As leader, Death led the Horsemen against X-Factor before Iceman managed to return him to his senses. He rejoined X-Factor shortly after and renamed himself Archangel.

Angel's feather wings eventually returned, breaking the metal wings he had as Archangel. A long time later, Angel's Archangel persona re-emerged. When Fantomex in his X-Force team killed Apocalypse, Angel became the heir. With the Archangel persona in firm control, he was joined by the Four Horsemen and other former servants of Apocalypse. He attempted to engineer the destruction of the world, intending to grow a new world out of the old. When his Horseman Death was killed by X-Force, Archangel made Psylocke into the new Death and intended her to be his bride. She was kidnapped by the Morlock Caliban to be her bride but was saved by the X-Men. Kitty shared a brief romance with Colossus. However, while on the Beyonder's world, he developed feelings for an alien woman Zsaji, who eventually died. When Colossus returned, he confessed to Kitty his feelings for Zsaji, ending their romance. Kitty became good friends with Doug Ramsey, sharing an interest in computers. Doug eventually joined the New Mutants as Cypher.

Kitty was possessed by the ninja demon Ogun when she traveled to Japan to find her father. Kitty gained a virtual lifetime of martial arts training and was brainwashed into becoming a ninja assassin. She was sent to kill Wolverine. With Wolverine's help, she was able to resist Ogun's influence. They were able to vanquish Ogun and Kitty took on the codename Shadowcat.

Kitty was injured during the Marauders' massacre of the Morlocks. She lost control of her powers and was stuck in an intangible state. Her condition deteriorated before she was saved by Mr. Fantastic of the Fantastic Four. The X-Men injured during the massacre were sent to Moira MacTaggert's Muir Island to recuperate. Kitty and Nightcrawler joined the British team Excalibur after they watched the X-Men seemingly perish at the hands of the Adversary. She romanced agent Pete Wisdom and joined international law enforcement agency S.H.I.E.L.D. for a mission. She broke off her relationship with Wisdom shortly after. When Excalibur disbanded, Shadowcat, Nightcrawler and Colossus returned to the X-Men.

She visited Genosha, gaining a rebellious streak for reasons unknown. She returned to the X-Men for a while, departing following the death of Colossus. She attended the University of Chicago, where she met the former New Mutant Karma. Being lesbian, Karma developed a crush on Kitty, which was not reciprocated. During this period of time, her father died. Soon after, she was kidnapped by the anti-mutant Reverend Stryker but Storm's team of X-Men rescued her.

She rejoined the X-Men under Cyclops' team, harboring reservations serving alongside a reformed Emma Frost. She found Colossus alive on the first mission and they soon resumed dating. While in the alien Breakworld, Kitty used her powers to make a bullet pointed at Earth intangible. However, she was also trapped in the bullet as the X-Men resigned themselves to losing her. Some time later, Magneto decided to show his new allegiances to the X-Men by using his magnetic powers to return the bullet to Earth, cracking it into half and rescuing Kitty. He had previously encountered the bullet and had been keeping tabs on it until his decision to draw it back. However, Kitty was stuck in an intangible state, which was eventually reversed with an alien ritual conducted by the Breakworlders.

She joined Wolverine at the Jean Grey School as headmistress. When the original X-Men were brought to the present by the Beast, she decided to serve as their guide, quitting her role as Headmistress.

 Rogue (Anna Marie)
Powers
Able to absorb memories and abilities through physical contact
History
Anna Marie was born in Caldecott County, Mississippi, to a happy family. When her mother disappeared after a failed attempt at using Native American mysticism, Anna was raised by her strict and authoritarian Aunt Carrie. She ran away from home as a young teenager. Eventually, she was taken in as a daughter by the shape-shifting Mystique and precognitive Destiny. She grew close to a boy named Cody Robbins. At a moment when she kissed Cody, her powers emerged, absorbing the life energies of Cody and leaving him in permanent coma. Traumatized by the experience, Anna started wearing body-concealing clothing that eliminated the possibility of body contact. In time, Mystique turned Rogue's loneliness, bitterness and despair into anger, recruiting her into the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants.

Rogue confronted the Avenger Ms. Marvel, intending to steal her powers. However, things went wrong when the transfer of psyche and powers became permanent. The shock of absorbing such a strong persona drove Rogue insane and she attempted to kill Ms. Marvel by throwing her off the Golden Gate Bridge. However, Ms. Marvel was saved by Spider Woman. Though Rogue felt guilt over the incident, she fought the Avengers using her powers. She also fought Dazzler and Angel (Warren Worthington) and the X-Men on separate occasions.

Unable to deal with her powers and Ms. Marvel's psyche, she turned to Professor X for help. Professor X was unable to help her immediately but recruited her to the X-Men, against the wishes of the members in the team. She gained the trust of the team after she protected Wolverine's fiancee, Mariko Yashida, in Japan; and risking her life to save Colossus in a fight against the Brotherhood. The X-Men relocated to the Australian Outback where she struggled with the Ms. Marvel personality. Rogue was pulled into the mystical portal Siege Perilous during a fight. Rogue returned to Earth, with the remaining portions of Ms. Marvel's personality purged and reconstituted as another entity. A powerless Rogue turned up in the prehistoric Savage Land where she faced the Ms. Marvel entity. There was not enough life-force to sustain both of them but Magneto arrived in time to destroy the Ms. Marvel entity and save Rogue. Rogue joined Magneto, Nick Fury and Ka-Zar to battle Zaladane who wanted to conquer the Savage Land. Though Rogue was attracted to Magneto, she parted ways with him when he killed Zaladane. Rogue rejoined the X-Men where she went on to share an on-off relationship with fellow teammate Gambit.

She joined Storm's team to recover Destiny's Diaries. She requested teammate Sage to evolve her powers to the stage where she can use all the powers she had ever absorbed at once. After injuries sustained in a fight against the inter-dimensional warlord Khan, both Gambit and Rogue lost their powers. They left the X-Men to lead a life away from adventuring and explore their relationship. Both of them returned to the X-Men and regained their powers. However, their relationship became strained due to their inability to touch each other. The situation worsened when Mystique masqueraded as young mutant Foxx to seduce Gambit with the intention of breaking up Rogue and Gambit's relationship. Mystique tried to set up Rogue with another mutant Pulse but failed. Gambit eventually became Apocalypse's Horseman, believing he can defeat Apocalypse eventually. However, Gambit was brainwashed and he attempted to kill Rogue. After Apocalypse's defeat, Gambit left the X-Men. Rogue became leader of an X-Men team. Rogue's powers were amplified by the Strain 88 virus inflicted by Pandemic but she became comatose. She was forced to wake up by Cable to help in defeating the alien Hecatomb. In defeating Hecatomb, Rogue absorbed psyches of eight billion minds stored inside it. When the X-Men brought Rogue back to her old home in Caldecott to recuperate, they were attacked by Sinister's Marauders who captured Rogue.

A battle soon erupted between different factions when the first mutant baby was born since M-Day, on which most of the mutant population lost their powers. At the climatic battle, Mystique and Gambit captured the baby and placed the baby in direct contact with Rogue. All the psyches previously imprinted in Rogue was removed. She woke up to grab Mystique's face, absorbing her powers and consciousness, leaving Mystique incapacitated. She departed, asking Gambit not to follow her.

She went traveling, ending up in the X-Men's former Australian Outback base. She was trapped in the illusions of Danger before she was rescued by Professor X and Gambit. Danger was persuaded by Professor X to give up her plots of revenge against Professor X. Both Danger and Professor X helped Rogue to gain control of her powers. Rogue, Gambit and Danger traveled to San Francisco where they joined the X-Men. She became mentor to the young mutants and served in several missions with the X-Men. She formed a relationship with Magneto, which ended when she left Utopia to join Wolverine

Gambit (Remy LeBeau)
Powers
Able to transform an inorganic object's potential energy into kinetic energy; causing it to explode
History
Rémy LeBeau was born in New Orleans, Louisiana. He was kidnapped from the hospital where he was born, then raised by the LeBeau Clan Thieves' Guild, and given to the Antiquary as a tribute. They referred to the child as "Le Diable Blanc" ("the White Devil") and believed he was prophesied to unite the warring Thieves' and Assassins' Guilds. Soon after, Rémy was placed in the care of Fagan's Mob, a gang of street thieves who raised the child and taught him the ways of thievery. After living as an orphan on the streets, a 10-year-old Rémy attempted to pick the pocket of Jean-Luc LeBeau, then patriarch of the Thieves' Guild. Jean-Luc took the boy off the streets and adopted him into his own family. In an attempt to reconcile the Thieves' and Assassins' Guilds, Rémy married Bella Donna Boudreaux, granddaughter of the head Assassin, whom he met at age 8. Unfortunately, he was challenged by her brother Julien to a duel after the wedding. In the duel, Gambit killed Julien, and he was exiled from the city, ending his relationship with Bella Donna.

Remy's powers became out of control and he approached geneticist Mr. Sinister to help him control his powers. To return the favor, Remy carried out several missions for Sinister, the last of which led him to assemble the hit squad Marauders. Gambit led the Marauders into the sewers in search of the disenfranchised mutants known as the Morlocks. The Marauders went on to massacre the Morlocks. Gambit was unable to stop the Marauders but managed to rescue a child, Sarah who would grow up to become a one-time X-Man Marrow.

After traveling around the world, he found and rescued Storm, then de-aged into a child, from the malevolent psychic entity Shadow King. He went on to shared adventures with her. They ended up at the mutant island Genosha, where they helped the various X-teams against the anti-mutant leadership. Storm returned to adulthood at Genosha and she inducted Gambit into the X-Men. Gambit went on to share a on-off romance with fellow X-Man Rogue. After the X-Men learnt of his involvement in the Morlocks massacre, he was booted off the team but he eventually returned. While a member of X-Men, Marrow was attracted to Gambit but she left the team under unrevealed circumstances. Gambit later left the X-Men for a brief period of time before rejoining Storm's X-Men. He joined Apocalypse as his Horseman, thinking that he can stop him eventually. However, the plan backfired and he gained a new Death persona. When Apocalypse was defeated, he joined Sinister's Marauders. He later reformed and joined Professor X on his adventures to regain lost memories following his head injuries at the hands of Bishop. After helping Rogue gain control of her powers, he returned to the X-Men with her.

Active: New X-Men #118 (2001)
History
Stepford Cuckoos were formerly the Five-In-One, along with Sophie and Esme. They were grown from ova cells harvested from Emma Frost by John Sublime where she was comatose following the Sentinel attack on her student Hellions. The Five-In-One were designated Weapon XIV in the Weapon Plus program. They were placed in the Xavier Institute when the school opened its doors to an expansive student group. They became the proteges of Emma Frost.

The telepath Quentin Quire had a crush on Sophie but was rejected. After learning that he was adopted, Quentin started a student riot with his Omega Gang, using the drug Kick to boost his powers. Wanting to stop Quentin, Sophie used the drug Kick to boost her powers, using Cerebra to do so. In the process, she overexerted herself and died. They held Emma Frost partially responsible for Sophie's death because she inspired Sophie to heroism. They informed Jean Grey that Emma Frost was about to conduct a psychic affair with Jean's husband Cyclops.

Esme soon collaborated with the X-Man Xorn, who disguised himself as Magneto. However, Xorn eventually killed Esme in a fit of anger.

When the students were reorganized into student squads, the Cuckoos were placed in Cyclops' Corsairs squad. Their origins were revealed and they each absorbed a Phoenix fragment. The fragment eventually vacated them and traveled back into Space.

Prodigy (David Alleyne)
Powers
Knowledge mimicry of limited radius, formerly
Active: New Mutants vol. 2 #4 (2003)
History
David is a naturally intelligent boy. His manifested his powers as a teenager and realized that he had the ability to know anything people nearby him know. As a result, answers to his exams and assignments began to appear in his head whenever he was in the same room as his teachers. David became driven to study harder. He took college-level courses while finishing high school and attempted to keep his mutation a secret until the anti-mutant Purity group outed him to his parents and attempted to attack him. he was rescued by the librarian at his school, the former New Mutant Karma and her former teammate Dani Moonstar.

David enrolled at the Xavier Institute and became roommates with Josh Foley. David was initially hostile toward Josh due to the latter's past as an anti-mutant bigot before he discovered his own mutant powers. Later, David and Josh were part of the New Mutants student squad and David eventually became co-leader along with Surge. David underwent an illusion of a possible future in which he removed his mental blocks and was able to permanently retain the knowledge he absorbed. In this illusion created by Dani and Emma Frost, David gained the knowledge of the the most important and intellectual individuals in the world, bringing a near-utopia to Earth, albeit at the hidden cost of genocide and the killing of his friends and the X-Men. The illusion ended with Surge, his wife, overloading her powers and killing them both in order to stop him. This illusion caused David to reject having his mental blocks removed and caused him to ignore his feelings for Noriko. They eventually resolved their differences and David began a relationship with her.

David lost his powers after M-Day. Planning to leave the Institute, David revealed that he built a "Danger Cave" to replace the destroyed Danger Room before he lost his powers. David's parents and Cyclops decided it would be safer for him to remain at the mansion. David helped the New X-Men student team, using his natural intelligence to help his friends. Fearing for David's safety, Surge tried to push him away. Their relationship eventually came to an end. David was confronted by the Stepford Cuckoos, who removed his mental blocks, which restored all the past knowledge and skills he absorbed when he had his powers. David joined the other mutants who relocated to San Francisco. He has since assisted the X-Men in several missions in a non-fighting capacity. Following the schism between Cyclops and Wolverine, he chose to remain in Utopia. He did not join the Jean Grey School along with other Utopia students after Utopia was shut down. He later left to join the Young Avengers.

The genius son of a weapons-manufacturer, Kade Kilgore spent two years blackmailing the board of his father's company to install him as the new C.E.O. Kade used a psi-blocking helmet and a light-bending wetsuit to sneak onto Utopia island and free Quentin Quire from his containment cell. After Quentin interrupted an arms control summit in Switzerland (which Kade's father was attending) by telepathically making the assembled diplomats reveal their dirtiest secrets on live television, Kade shot his father to death and dumped his body out of his flying car and into the mountains. With the resulting fear and general panic after Quentin's attack, the Hellfire Club then toasted the 12-year-old as their new Black King. He turned the Hellfire Club into a mutant-hating organization, recruiting a new Inner Circle. After failed attacks on the Jean Grey School, he went around the world to recruits faculty and students for his Hellfire Academy. He also had Maximilian attempt to recruit Oya from the Jean Grey School. Maximilian was hunted by Frankenstein's Monster and his Murder Circus. After Oya helped him escape, he decided to embrace his heritage and adopt the alias Dr. Frankenstein.
